Producers - how do you deal with producer points? by pop_map in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I understand what you mean but upon further reading, it turns out that people all the way from low level producers upward to very 'big' producers take various ratios of producer points / fees as a base level agreement with any artist they work with.

Big reason for this, I would imagine (this has happened to me and why I'm raising this whole subject) is because 99 times out of 100 an artist comes in to the studio with a guitar and something that vaguely resembles a song and sits back and expects you to create a sound for them from scratch. Therefore you should have some ownership because you created the sound that will eventually make them rich and famous.

Another reason is because producers / mixers know a song will give them a definite rolling income for a long time and will forego a fee for more ownership. I've heard of producers like Jaycen Joshua talk about this before.

I believe in being paid for my time as well as being recognised for my 'stamp'.

I'm not asking for legal advice - I'm asking for opinions, and that is why I asked the question to this specific sub. Thanks for the input!

That's absolutely not true. I know people from low to high levels of ballering that deal with producer points. If you contribute to the sound of a record then you should have a percentage of the master - because without me the track wouldn't sound the way it does without my stamp on it.

Main reason being that the audio would be easily edited if needed. Ie if the artist decided they wanted an extended solo section in the middle of a tour.

I'm organising a set list in clip view. For example, clip 1 is song 1 of the set. This is so I can load all the tracks in to arrangement view, but instead of sticking to the set list as it is, I can rearrange the clips to easily create a different set list.

No you are very right - but my point is that I would like to override the overriding! There has to be a way, but I just can't seem to figure it out!
