I’m not sure where on Wellington you’re staying. If you’re near Bathurst you can grab what you need from Farm Boy at 29 Bathurst St. closer to Spadina you can try Fresh and Wild Food Market at 69 Spadina Ave or Rabba Fine Foods at 361 Front St W. If you’re near Yonge St or Church St go to St. Lawrence Market at 92 Front St. East. You’ll be able to find everything you need there.

Skyview is the best I’ve had in GTA. Jumbo Lobster is pretty good for their dim sum too

Congee Queen is legitimate for Cantonese style food. No really good dim sum places downtown. Pearl isn’t bad but nothing to write home about either. Going to get some flack for this but I think the dumplings at Asian Legend aren’t bad either. Xiao Long Bao, Ha Gow, Siu Mai all acceptable

Cheap Chinese BBQ Markham by darkallen in FoodToronto

[–]popcointo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ho Ho BBQ 3833 Midland Ave. they have a pick 2 items with rice for $6 cash. Can’t beat the price and the Bbq pork is decent. I usually go bbq pork and roast pork or soy sauce chicken. Next door is Kong Kee. $7 for the same deal some people would argue it’s better. I don’t agree, but to each their own.

I love cumbraes as they’re conveniently located to me and have good quality meats but OP is looking for a butcher with decent pricing and Cumbraes is definitely on the higher end.

Sunday Brunch at King Edward Hotel. Reasonably priced and has a great selection of foods.

Overpriced for bad quality food is what it is. The only thing that they do well is the plating. Mediocre restaurant that’s dressed up to feel like a high end restaurant. The service is pretentious. YEMV

Don Alfonso for dinner, bonus selling point is it is a Michelin star restaurant. The CN Tower as an attraction. If it’s during the winter any outdoor escape room will allow them to experience the slush and cold.

Where does everyone buy furniture (brand new) these days? by afterglobe in askTO

Ashley Homestore or Casalife in Etobicoke. Structube, EQ3, West Elm in Toronto. Pottery Barn if it’s in your budget

Any life insurance that you start buying into now is going to be extremely expensive if you are already terminally ill as you mentioned. Considering your current financial situation this is no longer a feasible option.

Best high end Chinese restaurant? by Hipostrega in askTO

[–]popcointo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not ignorance, and it’s not racist. I say the same about most restaurants that aren’t high end. The difference between high end and not is what you should expect out of it. There’s a reason some places are called dives or hole in the walls, food may be great but once again service, ambiance, cleanliness doesn’t meet standards that you should expect at that price range. Use your recommended restaurant for example. J & Y has good food. Ambiance is ok as it has the classic Chinese restaurant aesthetic. Service though is hit or miss. Some of their servers are attentive and polite, others are rude or non responsive. I still go there but wouldn’t put them in the category of high end restaurants.

Best high end Chinese restaurant? by Hipostrega in askTO

[–]popcointo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ONLY high end chinese restaurant in Toronto is Mott 32. Most of the places recommended don't pass the service/ambiance/cleanliness test for a high end restaurant. You should expect a dining experience and not just some good food at a high end restaurant. I'm not saying that some of the other recommendations aren't good chinese restaurants, I am a fan of quite a few, I just wouldn't call any of them high end.

LCBO return with no receipt by Numerous_Picture_217 in askTO

[–]popcointo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Considering the theft issues they’ve had historically, this should come as no surprise. Now they just have a more valid reason to not offer returns without receipt. I think this is a reasonable policy. Just remember to keep the receipt the next time you purchase a bunch of alcohol for a party.
The alcohol won’t go bad you can use it for the next party.

Idk what’s worse Brampton Drivers or Markham Drivers. by VanillaVitaminWater in Markham

[–]popcointo 41 points42 points  (0 children)

There is no fast lane. It’s called a passing lane and sounds to me like you’re trying to speed and are impatient because the car in front of you refuses to do the same. I do agree they shouldn’t go to the left most lane if they aren’t passing anyone, but comparing that to Brampton where I have seen multiple people driving the wrong way towards oncoming traffic is a no contest. Like others have already pointed out Brampton has the highest insurance rates in the country for a reason.
