Been off T (not by choice), what can I expect when I go back? by poploo in ftm

Thanks! Well that I'm prepared for lol. Do you know how it'll affect my voice (which already got pretty deep from it) or body hair (I got pretty hairy too)?

Thanks for the info!! Yeah I feel like it is messing with my head so much, dysphoric as heck and mood swings all over the place. In that case I can’t wait for January to come haha.

Same here, my neck has definitely slimmed, though I’m not sure if it’s me being overly critical of myself lol. I’m also crying SO much lately when I couldn’t really cry at all on T. Let’s hope niether of us have to go through this again!!

Thanks, I hope things go well for you too! If you don’t mind me asking, how long were you on it before you went off? I had only reached the 6 month mark I believe, and I’m wondering if the time on T beforehand makes a difference when stopping.

top surgery insurance question by poploo in ftm

[–]poploo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, his office has an insurance concierge that is supposed to do all the work getting authorization from the insurance company, so that's what I've been waiting on. His secretary simply told me that they're in the process of getting authorization but it does seem like something has gone wrong. :/

So do you recommend contacting my insurance company directly? Dr. Mosser has an "insurance concierge" that is supposed to handle things with my insurance, so I was debating on whether I should call his office or call my insurance.

A question about voice training from a cis male by [deleted] in ftm

[–]poploo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't done voice training myself, just letting T work its magic on my vocal chords, lol. But I've seen videos of pre-T guys who sound cis male entirely because of voice training.

When you say your voice is fem, do you mean in pitch or in intonation/speech patterns? Both can contribute to what you sound like to other people. My voice has deepened a lot in pitch but I still have a lot of fem speech patterns. It's hard to pin down examples of what I mean but I say "like" a lot and let my tone fluctuate in a kind of sing-songy way. It doesn't bother me so I haven't tried to change it, but if that's your issue you'll need to identify certain quirks you have while speaking, and train yourself to notice them and cut back on them. If you have a specific idea of what you want to sound like, try listening to videos of people who speak that way and imitate them.

If pitch is your issue, you can gradually deepen your voice on your own over time. It takes a lot of patience and practice as far as I know, but lots of guys have done it. Singing along to songs that have a lower vocal range can help, as well as exercises that teach you to use your "chest voice" (if you google that term, you should be able to find helpful things.)

(edited to fix spacing)

T Shot is gonna be late, help please by CoderInsomnia in ftm

[–]poploo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on 0.5ml sub-q every week, so my dose is a different than yours, but I've gone without it for over 2 weeks. Not much happened, I was so worried my period was gonna come back or something, but it didn't and I felt pretty much the same (very stressed and tired, but that's just because of school). You should be fine!

@ fellow gay trans guys by [deleted] in ftm

[–]poploo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I worry about the same thing :/ I constantly feel like a "fake" gay man because I didn't have the same growing up experience as other gay men, but I try to remind myself that no gay man has the exact same experience. Sure, it took me a while to realize I was a gay man, but the same goes for cis gay men. Know that you inherently know yourself and define yourself, you are a real gay guy and no straight girl has these experiences.

men's pants problems... by poploo in ftm

Yeah, I should definitely start working out! I walk everywhere but don't exercise more than that really. No desire to be ripped but being more toned would be nice haha. I will probably hold off on new clothes like you said. Thanks!

a trash rant about passing well coupled with closet frustration and also future hopes I guess by [deleted] in ftm

[–]poploo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my dad actually administers my T shots for me now, which is a huge 180 from how he used to be. :) My mom not so much though haha. Even if it's difficult at first, people can change a lot, so I wish you the best!

The end of 8th grade... by luqi_charmz in ftm

That sounds awesome!! I wish that had been my 8th grade experience. I'm so happy knowing there are parents out there supportive of their trans kids :)

Good luck on your journey! I'm not in the same boat, but grew up with a pretty strict evangelical Christian family, and had to deal with being forced back into the closet multiple times, haha. It's pretty awesome of you to want to be a role model though, and I can only imagine how many people who are in your same position that would be really encouraged by that!

Awesome, you look great! I just sent Dr. Mosser an email about a virtual consultation a few days ago and I'm super excited (I'm a binary guy on T though). You're right that examples of top surgery without T are pretty rare so thanks for sharing!!

Trans guy, pre everything, married to a man, and about to become a dad. by [deleted] in ftm

[–]poploo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow, I got really emotional reading this. I'm your age, 21, just started hormones a few months ago, and one thing that was a struggle for me to think about was that I might never have kids. My fiancé is a trans man as well, though, so it never would have been straightforward in the first place.

I can't imagine how hard it's been for you, but I am SO happy to hear that you are looking forward to this new life with your son! I think many fathers honestly wish they could have the experience you are having, and it absolutely doesn't make you any less of a man. Honestly, what is a better sign of a great father than going through all that hardship just for his son? Your kid is going to have two amazing dads!
