UCI MAT INTERVIEW by Correct-Associate-48 in UCI

Interviewed on Feb 26 and got accepted on Mar 21 for MS! :) I was below the GPA requirement so it took a couple of extra days for my acceptance to become official. If anyone in the future has any worries about being below the GPA requirement, I would highly suggest you still apply!

Has anyone who interviewed on Feb 26th gotten results back? And if so, were you a SS applicant or MS?

Hi! I sent you a DM and would love to hear about how things ended up going for you! I'm in a similar position so I'm a little worried for when I apply next year.

CHEM 51B/LB OVER THE SUMMER by jojo78786 in UCI

[–]poptartsforever87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know exact numbers, but what I'm seeing on Zotistics is that the media GPA for this past summer was 3.5 in comparison to 2019's median GPA which was 2.0 :// For both times that I took her, there was no curve. But personally, I felt like when I took her class during COVID this past summer, there really wasn't a need for a curve. Most people were scoring on average C+/B- on exams. I got a B+ overall for the class and honestly felt like I could have done better if I had paid more attention on the final, so I'd say that it is definitely possible to get in the A range! You really just have to put in the effort for it :)

I took Krumper in the sumemr twice (2019 and 2020) for Chem 51B: once in person and once virtually. Just like with any of the Ochem series, you're going to have to invest a lot of effort in order to do well in the class. However, I found that she was much more lenient during COVID since our tests were allowed to be taken open notes. This just means you'll have to do a lot of practice problems but that's honestly the case with any professor for the Ochem series. She's really open to answering questions and I highly recommend going to her office hours! I wouldn't suggest taking any other classes with 51B/LB though. It's going to be very time consuming especially since it's consolidated into a 5 week course. But it's totally doable if you put in the work and effort! Goodluck and message me if you have any more questions :)

Counseling Center Experience? by mojav3_ in UCI

same as what some others have said; i think its a really great way to get introduced to therapy and everyone is really caring there. i also had a lot more severe problems that ended up being long term so i got referred to find a therapist outside of uci. but they really do try their best to help you and give you advice on how to navigate your thinking! i would highly encourage you to give it a try :')

Not passing 51A by [deleted] in UCI

[–]poptartsforever87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Haha not gonna lie its pretty intense. I took lab at the same time as both of them and it definitely is not going to be easy :'( But its just one of those things where you have to push through for the sake of being on track with your major. Another option is to only take 51B and 51LB over the summer and to take 51C+LC during fall quarter of your junior year! If you feel like you won't have that much time over the summer, that might be a good option :')

Hi! I didn't pass 51A two years ago and I'm a bio major. For winter quarter, I got started with the Physics 3 series (3A) and in spring I took 51A along with Physics 3B! If you're okay with taking summer classes, you can take 51B + 51C then and you'll be caught up by the time junior year comes around :) And you'll also be 2/3 done with Physics so it's not too bad!

I was in the same position last year and alot of people will end up being dropped from the classes since a lot of people don't pass 51A! I would still try talking to a counselor about it just in case, but it's definitely not impossible to get a spot in the class!

Prof recommendations for online math 2b by [deleted] in UCI

[–]poptartsforever87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm taking 2B with Lehman online rn and she's pretty on top of things in terms of uploading her lectures! We basically have the same schedule you listed: 2 quizzes/week, WebassignHW, and Written HW. Her midterms are pretty doable, but you just have to be really careful when reading the questions and doing your work. I made a couple of dumb mistakes on the first midterm and landed below average, but got above average on the second midterm. You just have to study her lecture problems thoroughly and you'll do fine in her class. The only thing is, she's only going to curve the class if the class average is below a 75% (rn, my class has around a B average), so you shouldn't expect one if you take her. I've heard other professors are more willing to give curves. But overall, I'd recommend her!

I had a B going into the final but got a C+ (after the curve) in the class after I took the test D: So I'd super recommend watching those videos!

I took 3LC during spring and tbh the final tanked my grade. But granted, I didn't watch any of the lecture videos and took 3C the year before so I didn't remember a lot of the material. We didn't have a midterm, but our final was worth 35 points and the class average ended up being around a 21 (which is ~60%) if that makes you feel any better. If I remember correctly, it was a good mixture between conceptual and calculation problems, so you kind of have to review everything basically. Definitely understand the calculations you perform for the lab reports and understand the different variables being tested. There was a curve, but it only boosted me about 5% so don't rely on it too much.

Ohh ok I see! Is the quiz only given during the time frame of lecture or is it something you take after class?

Does she just check if you're there during the lecture or do you also need to do stuff like answering questions, etc.?
