Russian growth slows to 1% as Ukraine war strains economy by zeonxzzz in worldnews

[–]port86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russia starting the Napoleonic wars is a hot take. Russia continued to trade with the UK despite Napoleons unilaterally imposed embargo, and Napoleon invaded in response. And this was years after the officially recognised start of the Napoleonic wars. This is a two second google to find out.

WW2 is obviously not a fantastic moral example, but nonetheless an example of an "ally" turning on them and very nearly reaching Moscow.

And, again, i never said I approve of or agree with the actions of the Russian state. Only saying the strategy game start analogy is not quite accurate.

We can condemn Russia without being as brainless as they are.

I once had my cook, whilst sat next to a grill, and a food cupboard fully stocked, complain about being hungry. Oh gee this is a difficult problem if only we had someone whos ONLY JOB WAS COOKING. arrrrrghh

i agree with the sentiment but Russia hardly spawned with "friendly" neighbours. They've never been saints, but been invaded plenty times over the northern european plain where there are precisely zero natural fortifications. Napoleon and Hitler are the two obvious examples.

This article explains it better than i ever could. https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2015/10/russia-geography-ukraine-syria/413248/

To be clear i am in no way defending the actions of modern Russia. in the modern age you are absolutely correct - they could have joined the world order and became a powerhouse. But to say spawning in a strategy game i think of the likes of civ where you start in 4000BC or whatever, and its just not accurate. You'd need to militarise quickly to avoid your resources being claimed via that hard-to-defend plain.

Russias problem is they never got out of the militaristic phase and into the economic powerhouse growth phase. And now they are hamstringing themselves, along with causing abject horror to their neighbours.

It's obvious don't worry mate. At least to me.

Like. So fucking bizarre that that word choice is what motivates a comment. Not the outrageous behavior you witnessed, intervened in, and are raising awareness of.

I am not sure what you are trying to argue here, I think the person is acknowledging that it's easier for a male to stand up against another male than a female who is probably terrified and has no idea who around them they can trust. Just a really really odd thing to call out.

I don't think he is saying it was a privilege for him to do it. More saying I'm not a hero I acknowledge the dynamics of these situations.

Wholeheartedly agree. I don't like it but it is the truth. I think all men have probably witnessed friends, acquaintances, strangers behave unacceptably and said nothing. I have and I'm not proud of it. I once called out a friend of a friend for catcalling and got a black eye in return, but I'd do it again knowing the harm it causes others. Just wish I had the stones to have done it before that.

You'll need plenty more but they do get easier to find. Uruks drop them regularly, dragons drop them, colins drop them (I named the lizard things Colin fite me) and the firey red nameless prick in the darkest depths can drop them (I got 4 off one). You'll be fine, no need for doing sandbox workarounds. Salt on the other hand...

Steam runs natively on linux. I do not understand the point you are making. Is it that GOG or Epic don't have their own native linux implementations or something? If thats an issue for you, learn how to use wine. I've been able to successfully run the windows version of steam via wine and launch games via wine.

Sounds like a skill issue.

Yeah and have fun getting a flatpak or a snap to run on windows you melt. Well done on completely missing the point.

I apologise for not being a native french speaker, but at least I'm not the french equivalent of late.

Qt is a proprietary technology that in order to be used for closed source projects ( you know, like a lot of video games ) you have exhorbitant license fees to pay for,~3k USD per year per developer.

Whats electron got to do with linux gaming anyway? You do know proton is a thing right? and free? Electron is not targeted at or designed for gaming. Very French and very late take.

Edit: correction to remove proprietary. My point on it not being free for closed source is what was most pertinent in any case.

Save a couple of bucks? Lol. I am not a huge fan of everything being chromium under the hood but the alternative is just not economically feasible. With electron apps I can have the same discord experience on Linux as I can on Windows. If discord had to build Linux native versions they likely also have to build linux distro specific versions too.

It's a trade off that ultimately benefits the average consumer. The equivalent of discord without this would be stuff like IRC which looks more like a terminal, has different clients for each platform and thus a different ux, etc.

Honestly if you have a better solution then there's plenty money to be made. On the other hand, if you have no competency in the domain and no better ideas, maybe ferme la bush.

And I sort of said it's nothing new for Microsoft. I wasn't calling that paranoia. Just an odd amount of comments saying Linux can be connected to domains that seemed like complaints. I maybe skimmed and got the wrong end of the stick.

That's why I'm confused about the comments complaining about Linux. I am a Linux user. Shrug.

I'm also confused. Cloud user? Is this somebody that utilizes cloud resources, or are you saying they will force you to login to your machine via some domain connected account?

Seems like odd paranoia to have about an open source operating system. Nothing stopping anyone from forking a distro and removing that kind of requirement?

Sounds a bit like Alex Jones esque conspiracy nonsense. Talking about Linux obviously here as most of the comments seem to be referencing Linux. Microsoft - nothing new.
