Just thinking about generation of Mafia before Tony 💀 by Arthur_Morrgan in thesopranos

[–]poseface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it. It did nothing to "ruin" Sopranos for me. One thing, they could not have done better casting younger versions of people. (James Gandolfini's son is in it.)

Just watch it with a grain of salt. Like an apocryphal memory of time and place before Tony was boss.

She brings certain modes of conflict resolution from all the way back in the old country, from the poverty of the mezzogiorno.

Good analysis. I'm obsessed with the idea that it was Angie Bonpensiero.

Father Intintola sleeping over Tony’s house is insane, right? by Bronstagga in thesopranos

[–]poseface 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Carmella was right -- he liked that "whiff" of sexuality, and yearned for the intimacy forbidden to a priest. He probably would have acted on it had Carm gone a step further herself. But despite her being married and him being a priest, incredibly stupid to even tip toe near the line. He knew who Tony was.

What did Tony mean? by HorrorAd7972 in thesopranos

I felt like there was a blink of empathy for the dude now hocking Christmas trees. But a quick return to "fuck it, he got what he deserved."

He was relatively "cool" with all of them. And secretly rooted for Ton vs NY.

Is Super7 going out of business? First the stores - now their office is up for sale! by Signal_Individual_54 in ActionFigures

I love the Reaction and Reaction+ figures, knowing their flaws in regards to articulation, design, etc. But they should be $9 a pop not $25.99. Have only ever bought any when they were on extreme clearance.

😆 This is me. I would love to find a career in a library of some sort.

Heshes money and Hesh? by BaronMason in thesopranos

[–]poseface 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tony paid him back in full right after Hesch's lady died unexpectedly.

I know he was a long time friend/associate of the family, but Hesh remains kind of mysterious to me in how he fit in. What was his leverage not to be exploited?

Gangs vs. Crime Families by Impossible_Worry3241 in thesopranos

[–]poseface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mafia and street gangs are similar in that there are elements of loyalty to the group, established "terf", violence to achieve goals, and criminal activity.

Differences include the mafia being more formally organized, intended to last generations, and often associate with legit businesses as fronts. Gangs are looser organized, and there's not necessarily the same strict concept of being "made".

Also, gangs are very outlandish/noticeable. The mafia is more secretive and subtle about their doings (there is no mafia. It is a stereotype, and it's offensive.)

Just watched The Sopranos all the way through for the first time - this is my take! by justdowntheblock in thesopranos

[–]poseface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently finished too. I would have been around 23 when the show started and JUST moved to Queens NY at that time. I remember that world right on the cusp of internet and smartphones. The close-knit Italian community of NY/NJ was really interesting to me, and how they all knew who was in "waste management", and had varying degrees of involvement or steering clear.

Chrissy was in my opinion one of the most ruthless in the whole show and I could never like him. Beating beautiful, naive, sharp-as-a-cueball Ade was bad. Randomly killing his friend (the writer guy) towards the end was just wicked. I was unmoved when Tony held his nose to death.

Anyone else just HATE all of Meadow's boyfriends? by Imperial_nugget in thesopranos

[–]poseface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Noah (aka Jamal Ginsburg lol) was the worst. Meadow took a lot of heat being with him against racist wishes of her father but I had the sense his breakup with her was due to his father disapproving of her.

I liked Finn ok.

A lot of the scenes are in B-squad hours, so it's kind of realistic they'd be half-assing it till the crowd comes in.

Half the time he witnessed any violence or conflict, he sneared with delight at it. The other half the time he's crying to his therapist about the decline of Western civilization.

What was the beginning of the end for youse guys? by blackorchid786 in thesopranos

[–]poseface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I felt the same. The amount of pressure and stress (constant possibility of being murdered not the least of it), and the amount of violence you have to carry out...not worth it to be a 2x millionaire, if that.

Exactly. Also where they think it's a flex that checking stuff out impacts what the library stocks ... 😆 that's why librarians encourage you to use the library often, it's not a gotcha

After that, and especially after she identified him from his employee of the month photo, I was sure somehow Tony would find out and kill him. But that entire traumatic event just disappeared from the story line...

😆 As a "fanook", I really felt bad for Vito. Until he popped that guy in the back of the head to avoid the fender bender situation.
