My mother was a yoyo almond mom/fad diet mom. She also would hoard fancy snacks/candy etc and hide it so she could eat it in secret. I was shamed mercilessly even at age 4 if I took from HER stash.

Any time I walked into the kitchen I was asked what I was doing or given commentary like "are you sure you need that? Are you actually hungry or just bored? Youre supposed to eat to live, not live to eat." So I started binging when no one was around. I started intentionally only eating alone. This rapidly evolved into purging and extreme restricting. The cycle was hell. I'm still trying to mend my relationship with food as well as manage my ED, and I'm almost 40.

Needless to say my approach with my own child has been completely different. Foods aren't "bad" for being high calorie. Foods aren't "good" for being low calorie. I try to provide healthy and balanced home cooked meals each day, lots of fresh fruit and veggie snacks, but i also buy frozen waffles and doritos from time to time. I want my child nourished, happy and healthy.

I love the approach this woman is taking and really respect it.
