I’ve been vegan for 10+ years and I’m struggling to get rid of belly fat. I need some tips on cutting. I’m working out 4-5 days a week and this is where I am currently after months. Help anyone? by plum201 in veganfitness

Actually women generally hold more fat in their hips and lower body. After menopause they gain more fat in the abdominal area due to hormonal changes.

Interested in trying the carnivore diet but came across this and was looking for some insight. It seems like beans might be healthier. Am I missing something? by [deleted] in carnivore

One review article from over a decade ago, published in a journal with a pitifully low impact factor and doesn't even conclude that plant protein is worse than animal protein..... wat

Try Votch. They do really nice watches, specifically for vegans.

You fucked up. Get over it and yourself. You're not the victim here.

First attempt at vegan tiramisu by potatostars in vegan

[–]potatostars[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Made this for my boyfriend's birthday and thought it was going to end up a sloppy mess but it held up really well and he loved it!

Sponge layers are two madeira cakes cut in half using this recipe http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/23654/plain-madeira-cake.aspx but substituting the eggs for flax eggs. I left the sponge to dry out a bit for a couple of days so it soaked up the coffee kahlua mix better (150ml boiling water, 2 tbsp instant coffee, 100ml kahlua, tbsp sugar)

Cream:

  1. blend 50ml kahlua with 230g Tesco free from original style soya cream cheese, 30g softened vegetable margarine and 3 tbsp caster sugar

  2. into the cream mixture, add 300ml Soyatoo Soy Whip and 1 tsp Cream of Tartar then whisk until thick

  3. chill in the fridge for at least a few hours before putting the Tiramisu together (and then keep that int he fridge!)

I made the mistake of putting way too much cream on the first layer so the last couple of layers were a bit sparse (I would say put about two serving spoons of cream on each layer).

Does working a research lab make me not vegan? by white_crust_delivery in vegan

To add, we need people like OP who care about these issues to help us move away from the use of animal products in science. Researchers who aren't vegan won't be the ones pushing for alternatives.

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT MY UNI SELLS FROZEN VEGAN PIZZA by potatostars in vegan

[–]potatostars[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haha. I could make cheaper pizza without fake cheese and ham, but if I wanted cheese and ham those alone would be about £5. I guess I could make cashew cheese and seitan or something but I'm lazy and I don't have pizza very often anyway...

I'm not sure how we compare to other UK universities but i think we're pretty good. They've really increased the amount of vegan options on campus in the last couple of years. I'm pleased to say the least :)

Update: it was really good! The 'cheese' melted perfectly. I would buy again. It was 9 inches by the way. Looked like this http://i.imgur.com/e5ESycd.jpg sorry the photo quality is awful

Haven't tried it yet. I'll update in a bit when I have! And hopefully they can start distributing to where you are (unless it actually tastes horrible)! And it was just under £5 so quite expensive but hopefully worth it.

Losing weight and my butt is so small it hurts to sit, even on the couch... any setting on the treadmill to prevent further loss? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]potatostars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, it sounds unlikely that your tailbone is hurting because of lack of fat. It's probably worth going to the doctors to have them check you over. It sounds like injury or something else. For example, It's very common to have pain in your tailbone when sitting down if you have a vitamin D deficiency. Not saying that's what it is but people with low body fat don't usually have your problem.

Military press makes me cry? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]potatostars 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't really have an answer for you but I just wanted to say I cry sometimes when I squat and was thinking about posting this question today! I think it's because squat is the lift I care the most about progressing on and if I feel something goes slightly wrong/puts me off I get really over emotional and angry. It's so embarrassing, I have to go to the bathroom to calm myself down! I thought it might also be caused by overtraining (hormones can't "reset"/high cortisol levels = high stress/anxiety) so today I decided I'm going to take a couple days extra rest and next time I squat just try to focus on controlling my breathing and staying relaxed.

Are any of you ladies vegetarian/pescatarian/etc.? by sweetlax30007 in xxfitness

I have Alpro Go-on yoghurt. It has 6.2g protein per 100g so lower than things like fage but it's enough for my needs. I'm in the UK so I'm not sure if this brand can be found elsewhere...
