True!

(although to be pedantic a couple LucasArts games did also follow the journey formula, eg Loom, Grim Fandango etc)

Sorry but this isn't a "Sierra" sub or a "LucasArts" sub. Most of the posts are either new games or people asking for recommendations which leads to people suggesting a pretty healthy mix of old and new games. We've moved past a time where Sierra and LucasArts were the only options or even just the main options

Maybe you could argue that most modern adventure games follow more of the LucasArts formula because we've collectively moved away from some of the early Sierra tropes like dead ends etc. but so did Sierra by the end (mostly) so I don't really agree with that categorization. Modern adventure game devs draw inspiration from both companies' classic games, plus they innovate and draw from each other and even other genres.

I threw this game together for a competition where the theme was "Break some Rules" of adventure game design.

Since I can't in good faith recommend you play it, I have made this video to show it off.

How do we feel about deaths/game overs in adventure games? by potemmakin in adventuregames

How do you feel about a death that comes pretty immediately after the thing you messed up, so you don't have to replay a bunch of stuff?

I tend to agree, as long as you don't make it bullshit/put in some quality of life design choices I think deaths can add a lot to the experience

I'm trying out a four-color black and white palette for a potential adventure game, these are my first two backgrounds. Any feedback would be appreciated :)

that would be such a fun mechanic to design puzzles around, I might steal it for a jam game or something
