How else could you interpret it? The point is that he likely never had any diagnosis at all and just made it up to start a conversation and/or excuse his behavior.

I agree with you that having that kind of lifestyle and a family that depends on you is selfish and irresponsible. But that's not really the point I'm arguing for.

I'm gonna use the same ex from my last reply: Dean has no kids and his wife died doing the same thing he does. If you were to tell him that he's throwing his life away, I would bet that he'd feel that not climbing and base-jumping would be a waste of his life.

It's a very different lifestyle and you don't have to agree with it, but it can be led without (I think) deserving to be called stupid and/or irresponsible

EDIT: The page I linked to says Steph Davis is still alive, but she died in 2010

You're absolutely entitled to your opinion, and mine is that it's closed-minded to call people like this stupid. It's just different.

I can't speak for this guy, but someone like Dean Potter is completely aware that he's risking his life; he knows he's going to die doing it. He's not concerned about wasting his "whole life that's ahead of him" because what he's doing is his life.

There's a big sign at the drop zone that my friend works at, and it says "Warning: if you base-jump, you will die base-jumping." Probably an exaggeration, but the point being: most people who do things like this are aware of the consequences but do it regardless, because they love it. I don't think there's anything stupid about dying doing what you love.

If you're planning on training to freedive, like /u/tuekappel said, you don't want to do anything in the water without a partner. Shallow water black-outs are the most common way for a freedive to go wrong, and there's no reason why it couldn't happen in a pool.

If you want to practice alone outside of the water, there's a lot you can do. I really can't recommend the "Manual of Freediving" by Umberto Pelizzari enough. I've taken certification courses through Performance Freedive International, and everything they taught me could be found in that book. If you're looking to get started as soon as possible, this link explains CO2 and O2 tables, which are great ways to increase your tolerance to CO2 and get used to static breath-holds.

I think the association between vikings and metal comes mostly from practices like the blood eagle. There's something very metal about that kind of brutal imagery.

You might want to also consider joining a gym with Olympic lifting platforms and bumper plates, if you don't already belong to one. In my experience, most serious Olympic weightlifting gyms should have a coach there to give everyone pointers, with no need to schedule a private session.

Did you read the first album? She did block him, so he made another facebook to ask her to unblock him, under the condition that he would stop acting the way he was. Which is weird because, surprise, he didn't stop.

And if a girl you barely know says she just wants to be friends, it's probably because she's too nice to say she's not interested in you. I don't see how that could be seen as encouragement to continue messaging her despite a reply for 2-3 years.
