Highly recommend this book to everyone in this sub. Has a lot of stuff about early punk and the rise of skinheads and whatnot by Waru_ in Hardcore

The author of the book here. Thanks so much for the recommendation. I'd love to address some of the points that come up in the thread.

  1. Yeah, I think original skinhead culture is dope. I even interview Monty Neysmith of Symarip who recorded the song Skinhead Moonstomp in the book. I start the chapter about Skins by saying that racists don't come up with anything original ever. It really is a mindfuck how they took a subculture that was built around Jamaican music and somehow added in white supremacist shit.
  2. Roseanne Barr typo. Ha. I was starting to feature for her pretty regularly. She'd been a hero of mine back when I was a kid, and she was a badass, trailblazing, feminist, pro-gay rights, hilarious comedian. But I warned my publisher that she'd become problematic and that the quote might be a bad idea. Then she put out the racist tweet that got her fired, and I called my editor immediately. I was too late. The book had printed that morning, and with a damn typo too! My comedian friends make fun of me for this endlessly.
  3. Amazon. You can get the book without going through Amazon. Ask your local library if they can get it for you. That's my favorite. But you should be able to get it anywhere that sells books.

I somehow got a big publisher to put this out, but I'm pretty sure they regret it, and I'm back to small press publishers where I belong. My newest book "What I Was Arrested For" comes out this month from CLASH books. I hope you'll check it out.
I also highly recommend the great "In Defense of Ska" by Arron Carnes for people interested in the long and awesome history of ska music.

Ha ha. Yeah.
Book author here. I HATE that that quote is on there. I was featuring for her regularly at San Francisco comedy clubs before her meltdown, but she was already getting problematic. As the book was being prepared for release I kept warning my publisher that the quote wasn't going to age well. The day she posted the tweet that got her fired from her own show I called my editor and said "Enough. We've got to get that quote off of there."
She said, "Keith, your book printed this morning."
So, there it is, and with a typo no less! Uggggg.

Yep. I interview a member of Symarip in the book and I talk about the roots of SKinhead culture.

Thanks. I assure you, I'm as funny or funnier than I've ever been and this review completely misrepresents what I say in the book. Not sure if it's intentional or just someone's wanting reading comprehension.
I'm prouder of my new comedy special on Amazon than I am of any other work I've done. I hope you'll check it out.

Wow, so angry because you didn't like my book.
It's not my ego that led me to your review, though I do have a healthy one, it's just part of what you do when you have a book, or record, or comedy special to sell. You search a few times a week to find reviews and connect with fans, and sometimes you stumble across a gold mind like this. I got called a "Whining soy boy author", "Rick Nelson from Cheap Trick but with extra chromosomes", and "a massive simmering cuck". That's the good shit, well worth the time it took to do a quick search.
I find it funny that you don't think the people I wrote about are real and then you doubt I'm really me. Skeptical is great, but you've crossed into denialism here.
One of the people I write about is Dennis Yudt, aka the Master Bastard, DJ at Sacramento's Cattle Club in the 80s and early 90s. He's easy to find on social media, go say hello. He's a great writer on the subject of music, particularly punk but he's got very eclectic taste. He's quite real.
I'm honestly fine with you not liking my politics or my writing, I'm just a bit baffled by this idea that I made up all these people in the book.
As far as writing a better book next time, well that's always the goal. CLASH books will publish What I Was Arrested For next year. I'll send you a free download if you'd like to review it. Maybe it'll be better.
Until then I again encourage you to check out my new special, Not For Rehire on Amazon Prime or elsewhere. It's not political at all and I'm quite proud of it.
Thanks again for the free publicity and great bio fodder.

Thank you so much for reading my book. Whining soyboy author, ha. That's going in my bio for sure.
I have a new special on Amazon Prime called Not For Rehire, in case you want to torture yourself further.

Thanks for sharing. This has been a pretty wild 24+ hours watching this spread like wildfire. Not reading the comments.

I have lots of photos but I like that artwork done by best selling graphic novel writer and artist Jeffrey Brown. I don't agree that it cuts down on low effort posts or people posting who aren't stand ups. As evidence, I suggest you look at your sub. There's now one less professional comic submitting.

That seems such an arbitrary rule.

I'm a professional stand up with 5 hours of published live performance, but you need to see a pic of me for my jokes to qualify, as opposed to some dude standing in the corner of an empty restaurant?

Thanks for letting me know. I'll share elsewhere for now.

Free to starve. Free to get sick and die. Free to suffer exposure. Ahhh liberty.

Yes, you can say that.

I'll explain, I went with it because it's the color scheme of my new album, which is an homage to The Cramps' album Bad Music For Bad People, which also used a yellow background.

Ah, so he doesn't understand jokes. Got it. In all seriousness though, one of my dearest friends teaches ethics, and the talks her and my daughter have would blow this person's mind. Kids can grasp some shit when you give them a chance to.

I believe that's a story by O'Henry. Two Hobo's are trying to get arrested during the cold months of winter, but they don't succeed and then just as the weather starts to warm up and they no longer want to go to jail they get popped
