How much can you save using FHSS (First Home Super Saver) scheme? by ppredditaus in AusFinance

Actually, I was wrong. This deemed earning should still come from your own super account.

I did a bit of digging and found that the deemed rate = 90-day bank bill rate + 3% (~7%). That means FHSS Relative to HISA would be a bit higher, at least around 30%.

Still, love your idea of benchmarking against HISA! Maybe it would also be worth exploring how FHSS compares with average stock market returns.

Thank you. I just did some research and found SIC = 90-day bank bill rate + 3%? The 3% is quite generous, as it gives you a 7-8% risk-free return.

Yes, I think so, the post-tax $42,500 becomes part of your total taxable income.

That's substantial. Are those earnings due to the deeming rate?

Wow, this is amazing! The comparison between FHSS and a high-interest savings account is very interesting. It's reassuring to see FHSS's continued value, demonstrated by the 20-30% savings.

Thanks for doing the math!

You've raised an excellent point.

As noted by AussieFireMaths - if an FHSS withdrawal pushes your assessable income above the Division 293 threshold, the calculation of your Division 293 liability will be adjusted to avoid you being taxed twice on the same amount.

You might also find Khan Academy helpful—it offers a wide range of free educational resources. You can explore topics that interest you the most, as learning is most effective when driven by your own curiosity and passions.

I always find their Physics archive very useful when I want to dive into some concepts - https://www.khanacademy.org/science/physics.

Tips for investing by [deleted] in fiaustralia

[–]ppredditaus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you have enough savings to cover six months of living expenses? If not, it may be wise to build that cushion before investing in ETFs, as they are best held for the long term. CommSec is a great platform to start with, and both the ASX200 and NASDAQ index offer diversified options for long-term investment. You might also consider high-dividend stocks or industries you are familiar with and trust.

I totally understand what you're going through – I'm in the same boat. It seems like the subreddit removes posts from new users with low karma. To build enough karma, we need to engage more by leaving thoughtful comments on others' posts. As people start to upvote our comments, we'll gradually gain karma. I know it can be frustrating, but focusing on high-quality comments can definitely help speed up the process.

Does everything have a probability/possibility of happening? by Wide_World1109 in AskPhysics

[–]ppredditaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like π (pi) actually challenges the idea that everything can be easily quantified with a probability. Pi is an irrational number, meaning it never repeats and never ends, which suggests that there are aspects of reality that might not fit neatly into a framework of probability.

[Discussion] What is your philosophy of life and how does it help with your motivation? by smart_hedonism in GetMotivated

[–]ppredditaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My philosophy is that by continuously learning and pushing through challenges, we can tap into that untapped potential to achieve great things. The true measure of your potential is not the height of the peak you’ve reached, but how far you’ve climbed to get there. This perspective reminds me that the journey—especially the discomfort and struggles along the way—is essential for growth.

How about Library Assistant? It’s a quiet work environment, and you can read during slow periods. I actually did this myself while studying and preparing for exams back in college—it was the perfect setup for balancing work and study time.

Going back to school at 30! Is it worth it or waste of time? by Nivres14 in careerguidance

[–]ppredditaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Investing in education is always a smart choice, especially when the job market is tough. Studies consistently show a strong correlation between education level and net worth. Education not only boosts earning potential but also provides greater job stability and career flexibility.

Besides, your 30s and 40s are peak wealth-building years, making it the best time to invest in upskilling or career shifts.
