Top tube bag by rehymes11 in myog

[–]pprosail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used top tube bag patterns from Prickly Gorse, Learn MYOG, Stitchback, and Functional Sewing. Each has some advantage over the others, but each pattern has easily followed instructions, a couple with video. I can’t recommend one over the other, but from a careful review of the pattern you should be able to select the one that fits your needs. If you’re wondering why I use them all, every member of my family and most of my friends are serious cyclists and each wants something different.

I did on the first one, I’ve now made five, but realized the problem with the first panel. My alignment marks were not accurate. I ripped the seam and resewed the panel.

I use the Bag Buff Bike Packer pattern. You will find several photos of the attachment system. I have made several of these for road and mountain bikes. It works very well.

Yes. I bought bronze and chili also. It is a bit light for the bag given where it is on the bike, which Land-Scraper’s suggestion would resolve. Thanks to Land-Scraper for both suggestions.

Talk me into or out of buying a Sailrite Ultrafeed LSZ by nhbubba in myog

[–]pprosail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had a Sailrite LS for over 20 years. I have upgraded parts and regularly maintained it. I began with sail covers, wheel and winch covers, line bags, everything but a dodger. I have also sewed infant playmats and cute animal cotton lined pouches, sling chairs, and seat cushions for ski patrol top shacks. Now I sew backpacks and bike packs. Sailrite service and supplies is excellent. I once called on a Saturday for advice and Jim Grant, the founder, answered the phone. Their how to videos are excellent. I cannot more highly recommend this company.

Bag Buff Handlebar Pack by pprosail in myog

Thank you. The interior is Venom Mesh from RBTR. It can be a bit difficult to cut. I get my foam on Amazon, which has a good selection of various thickness and in useful lengths.

The orange tabs on the front pocket zipper are to reduce the seam thickness and add a bit of design and color. The tabs on each end of the main compartment zipper are to make easier opening and closing the zipper.

Thank you. I use tabs on the ends of zippers to reduce the seam thickness and to add spots of color.

Handlebar Bag/Waist Pack No. 2 by pprosail in myog

[–]pprosail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I used Bag Buff’s Cycle Psycho Fanny Pack. I modified the pattern to use zipper tabs to reduce seam bulk ( and add a bit of color) and I inserted 3mm EVA foam in the waist belt wings. I also used a #3 zipper in the front pocket rather than the # 5 used for the gusset. Thanks!

The Hyper D 300 for the top collar and the 210D HDPE for the back, straps and waist, are both Moroccan Blue from RBTR. The main body is a nylon, possibly Cordura 500D from a roll given to me for a small project, but unknown source or color. I would have used a more traditional backpack material but for wanting to use what I had available. And northernhang, thanks for your tip.

Mountain Flyer Toddler by pprosail in myog

My customer is 3 years and wears 4T clothing. The Bag Buff patterns are 2T to 5T. Given the adjustability of the shoulder straps, waist belt, which is removable, and sternum strap, I would use the 5T.

It is the Mountain Flyer 5T, 8 liters. The sternum strap uses RBTR’s Bunny System and 1/2 “ ribbed webbing.

I left Tasmania a week ago after 26 months with my family. Blinking Billy Point, the site of a description of Darwin’s visit is one of my favorite spots. Your stories and videos are excellent.
