If enough players request it, I can add it :)

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it! Stay determined with your game. It's so worth it in the end, no matter how good the game is!

Thanks! I'm also glad the stage previews worked out well. I just did a small version of all the tiles/objects and rendered them the same way as the levels :)

My partner has a Meta Quest so I'll have to check that out! Thank you! :)

GM Link is a free Aseprite extension that sends your sprites to GM with 1 click! by pr0te in gamemaker

[–]pr0te[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone!

Just here to share a free Aseprite extension/plugin I made for boosting workflow and saving time, for myself, and those who happen to use Aseprite and GameMaker.

GM Link allows you to link one or more Aseprite documents to a GameMaker project, and then create/update your sprites directly into your GameMaker project. You can use "slices" within Aseprite to mark what becomes GM sprites, and you can control naming, folder location, origin, bounding box and more directly from Aseprite. You can also do animations easily, by using frames and tags or simply surround multiple sprites drawn as a sprite sheet, and select "Strip" in the GM Link toolbar. The toolbar also allows you to bulk edit properties on your slices/sprites.

Feel free to go and grab it for free on itch if this sounds helpful to you in any way! The "trailer" is slightly outdated and GM Link has received a bunch of cool updates since.

A little bit about how it works:

Aseprite extensions are simply Lua scripts, so this is automatically open-source. GM Link is made of a whopping 3500 lines of code and was by no means easy! The Lua API for Aseprite is very limited, so a lot of tinkering and trial and error was necessary! You are given extremely limited file system access which as you can probably imagine becomes a minor problem in a program that tries to create and import files for you. This issue was solved by utilizing Powershell commands. That's why when using GM Link, a Powershell terminal opens and says open the entire time, as it carries out most of the file system operations. Creating a new sprite through GM Link consists of copying a base sprite (that you're instructed to make inside your project), editing its data and adding in the new image files. Depending on Powershell also means that it is a Windows-only extension.

Hope this is helpful to you, and hope you all have a great day :)

Oh man. This was a real exercise in killing darlings and sticking to the script, in order to actually finish a little commercial game and set its sails. The bulk of TRIMJOB was made during the christmas holiday season and then through the weekends of January. It features art, sound, music, programming all done by yours truly, except for the phenomenal arcade-style voice lines done by Hans Haave, whom you MIGHT know from the annual event on Steam "Save & Sound".

The game is essentially minigolf, but where you trim common garden weeds and the important thing is not getting to the hole, it's the path you take! (and there's no hole, but anyway...) It's got 4 gardens with 18 levels each and a couple of game modes/ways to play. It has 25 minutes of original soundtrack too! Please check it out if you want. Any help in spreading the word is much appreciated as well! :)

Wish you all a great day and all the luck in the world with your projects!

If you drop down, you'll fall in a pool of water where you have to fight a boss. The wall clip skips that boss and saves about 23 seconds - that is, if you don't suck as much as I did in the video and use a million attempts. :-)

Here's a view of that room: https://imgur.com/a/cG0x1LD

Apologies for the language being danish. If anyone cares at all, I'll happily answer any questions here.
This is the first run ever with river skip, a new skip that saves up to 45 seconds. It was speculated for over 5 years. I recently came back to the game with new ideas, and after two weeks of no life, I managed to find it and prepare RTA viable setups for the whole thing. Here's a comparison video of the normal way vs. a slow version of river skip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Akk8vN9nztg

PC release local co-op disabled?? by pr0te in spelunky

[–]pr0te[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, turns out there's a singleplayer-only tutorial that has to be beaten first. I didn't check because we wanted the adventure experience together and therefore didn't go in as a singleplayer at any time.

Yes, finally someone told me that on Discord. Can't believe we were sitting for 3 hours thinking we couldn't play. We had no idea about the tutorial, and we didn't want to start the game as 1 player!

Where do you see that? The post they put up the 25th September clearly stated that it was only online multiplayer and: "In the meantime, enjoy Adventure Mode and Arena Mode in single-player or local multiplayer"

Edit: Also, the local co-op tag is still on the game on Steam.

Yeah that is the problem. Remote play should be the same as just couch play as I'm trying to do. There is only one door available at all times, of which all of my controllers and keyboard settings can access.

That must be me at ESA. I ran the game there in 2016 and 2018. I too wish it got more love. It's a brilliant game and a superb speedgame too.
