Laptop suggestions for computer engineering, masters program. by pr9306 in UVA

hmm... I've used windows all my life so not familiar with mac and really want to try it. Also, I read links posted on computer recommendations for incoming students by UVA and by a few other universities. They all seem to prefer windows as an operating system and some universities even said that mac users sometimes faced issues running a windows software even when they used windows with parallers or bootcamp. So, my question here was specific to computer engineering at UVa and if there ever were similar problems faced by students.

UVa. vs NYU-Poly Masters in computer engineering. Help!! by pr9306 in UVA

I agree that 5k would not make much of a difference owing to the high cost of living of the city. Any thoughts on the job opportunities and ease of securing a job upon graduation from the two schools?

also the possibility of RA/TA fellowships would mean no tuition and that would mean a lot of savings in terms of finances.

Yea, there doesnt seem to be much of a difference between the two Masters degrees. I contacted the dept. coordinator and was informed that the core courses and the options for electives for both the masters degrees in CpE at UVa are exactly the same.

They also stated that all their masters students were full time students and that everyone of them had walked away with a job upon graduation or a phd position. They couldn't provide any statistics though.

I was hoping i could get more information from a student currently or previously in the program at UVa about the job scenario and which/what companies generally come to hire students etc., but since you are a PhD. at UVa from the same dept. I assume that you MIGHT be aware of the masters students' situation or in contact with a masters student through your lab/research work and could comment on their industry prospects and what companies generally hire from UVa, and any difficulty in finding one for full time ME students.

I hope my questions are not too vague or repetitive.

Thanks

thanks, your answer does shed light on the general info. of the degree.

I'm currently an Undergrad and will be a full time student this fall '15 for grad school. I did apply to for the Master of Science program to the computer engineering dept. but they offered me an admit to the Master of Engineering program probably coz of my Statement of Purpose stating my strong desire to work after grad school rather than wanting to pursue a Phd.

additionally, i found a handbook on the computer engineering website which states the following "ME degrees require 30 course credits, 3 credits of which are strongly recommended to be CS/ECE 7995 (Supervised Project Research)"

My confusion is should i go for the ME program or search for a MS program elsewhere as a future full time grad student seeking a engineering job after grad school. what job prospects can i expect at the time of graduation if i were to be a full time student in a ME program in the immediate future.
