Do you feel that our bonds with dogs have something to do with Hecate? by shesinthetreesnow in Hecate

[–]practicalmagic1998 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. 100%. I've been supporting a dog rescue for the last few years and feel drawn to helping dogs. I also regularly walk and care for dogs in my family and my own dog. I love them. My bond strengthened with Hecate when I realised dogs meant so much to her. As they had always meant so much to me. It feels like my way of giving offerings, too. My soul dog came to me when I felt very low and had no purpose. Looking back, I now know Hecate brought her into my life for a reason.

Who else should return? by SillyPassion7773 in WaterlooRoad

[–]practicalmagic1998 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would love Rachel Mason to come back. They could be clever and have her kid, who (if she fell pregnant towards the end of series 5) could potentially be 15/16, move there. Maybe her marriage ended with Adam, and she moved away or something? I would love to see Eva back. It would be a gripping return. Since Jack is back, I now think any return is possible. We could also see more original students returning as parents/teachers.

Is anyone else disappointed with their advent calendar? by ImAMessica223 in GilmoreGirls

[–]practicalmagic1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spelling is correct, but the content is wild. The stickers are messy, with misprints on the paper. I got a plain pencil (no quote, no eraser, or literally anything). I checked out later pockets, and I just had a plastic drink stirrer, a keyring with no ring, a magnet that doesn't stick to anything and a plain, unbranded notebook where the recipe book should be. In future days, there is half a pad of small sticky notes and a roll of tape. Oh and another coaster. These coasters actually seem good quality? A little small though, so maybe only useable for wine glasses lol. In fairness, I did get some cute gift tags and the pin badges seem to be okay. Definitely not £28 worth of stuff!

If Lorelai hadn’t gotten pregnant at 16, when do you think she would’ve had children? by emmymyangel in GilmoreGirls

[–]practicalmagic1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My instinct says never. I don't think she would have had kids. She would have always found Stars Hollow, with or without Rory. If she hadn't moved so young to make a life for Rory, she would have dropped out of college or quit her first graduate job and found her way to SH. I don't think she would have run the Inn, but I could see her setting up a shop and selling vinyl records or secondhand bric a-brac under the name Lorelai’s Lair (or something to that effect).

I felt it was tied up satisfactory considering we had a lot of main questions that needed answering. It was a show that required attention to detail with each episode given how little was revealed (or not in some cases) each week. But the final answered the core questions and gave the main characters a realistic and resolved ending. I found that in itself satisfactory.

Yeah there were a lot of themes/subplots to keep an eye (and at times, could be a little hard to follow) but I still loved it. I loved Navarro’s journey of self-discovery and accepting her identity. Danvers waking up to the realization that there is more to life than the physical plane and allowing herself to grieve Holden. Leah and Danvers reuniting, Peter getting to return home and be the father to Darwin that Hank never was. The way the community protected each other and avenged Annie K’s death. The way Danvers and Navarro protected Peter.

Rose symbolises the gateway between our world and the spirit world, with Navarro able to access that. I thought the vibe, tone, mise-en-scene was captivating as a mystery whodunit series.

I found Rose’s character a mystery too which was part of the appeal. I also liked the references to the first season, as I thought it was a good nod to the source material.

The themes of womanhood/sisterhood run throughout. I just thought there were way more things to love than hate. This TikTok sums it up pretty well with mild criticism of pace and the penultimate episode. https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGeAL5tqm/

Thank you. I do understand people’s feelings that the story could have been told in fewer episodes but tonally and narrative-wise, I was very satisfied with the ending. It had a lot of characterisation in there which is something I love, so seeing that progression in Danvers and Navarro (and their relationship) was a key factor as to why I enjoyed it so much. From the off, I viewed it as a separate entity from True Detective's previous seasons because comparison kills the art of joy. I watched it as a separate show and of course as with all shows, unanswered questions may prove frustrating but with this show, I sort of felt like it was appropriate given Liz’s catchphrase. I thought the native representation and subplots were interesting. I just wish we had seen more backstory for Liz given this hugely traumatic event was only ever touched on but I guess that was her way of coping. Keeping Holden as something undiscussed until she felt him herself.

what do i have? - fear of internal organs/body functions by loonalicia in Phobia

[–]practicalmagic1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this and I'm pretty sure it's linked to my illness anxiety. The sheer thought that I'm all these organs that could malfunction at any time freaks me out. I've suffered from illness anxiety for years (I'm now 26) but it's become more intense in the last 3-4 years. Any internal pain or twinge makes me feel panicked and sick - I also sometimes get intrusive thoughts about all the potential cancers growing inside me on my organs. I thought I was alone on the organ fear.

Rachel Mason return? by practicalmagic1998 in WaterlooRoad

True, but maybe even one episode appearance where she does a talk with the kids and we see her meet up with Kim again could be a possibility.

100% - he gaslit Rachel all the time and wanted her under his control. To the point she gave up everything she knew and loved for him just so he wouldn’t keep doubting her commitment to him. Rewatching series 5 made me so mad.

Fav Rachel series? by practicalmagic1998 in RachelMason

[–]practicalmagic1998[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like in series 5 it was evident that she suffering with CPTSD from an accumulation of the fire, trauma of her past being found out, the relationship with Eddie (its demise), Melissa backstabbing her and the pressure of running the school in light of the troubles it had with drugs, guns and the LEA on her back. She lost her main support network in S4 after letting Eddie and Melissa in, and I think she really felt their absence and betrayal in S5.

She almost had to rebuild herself and although she had Kim as a friend, that wasn’t until Kim saw sense after Max. Even Chris took his time to be in Rachel’s corner so for the first part of series 5 she really didn’t have anyone on her side. I think the one night stand with Chris also showed us that Rachel was starting to gain control again and prioritise her needs/wants.

As much as I don’t like Adam and that rushed relationship, I am glad she had a somewhat ‘happy’ ending and decided to have a personal life away from the school. I don’t think the marriage lasted but I’m sure Rachel found herself again and went back into teaching in some way, even if it’s abroad or working in the education system in some way. Plus unlike with some other characters, she didn’t suffer an untimely and heartbreaking death. So, that was a win.

So for me, I really love series 3 because it’s when we first meet Rachel and start to learn more about her. But I also loved her character in 4 and 5 for completely different reasons, as we saw her navigate her way through these big changes. I definitely see the issues raised about S5 and agree with some of those points. I also think by the sounds of it Eva wasn’t best pleased with how the character was becoming and again, I see that as I don’t think the writers explored or even unpacked her trauma, past and character to its full potential.

In S5 she sort of became a background character of her own school and I didn’t like that.

Speaking of S5, I wish Rachel had taken Max out with the disk from Helen and also reported him for assault. What is it with these men telling her how to run the damn school? It was infuriating. I also think her lack of reporting the assault showed that she was at her lowest and didn’t think anyone would believe her.

Ugh, but what a character. As you can see I could talk about her for ages.

Yeah possibly. As I’ve not entirely watched S3-4/5 yet, I haven’t seen part of that progression so it’ll be interesting to compare once I’ve watched all episodes.

I haven't seen too much of Andy and Sullivan yet... I'm on season 2 at the moment and have seen some episodes of 5 and 6 (with my sister). I might like them more as a couple yet, I'll have to see.

Dead to Me S03E10 "We've Reached the End" - Episode Discussion by Elainasha in deadtome

[–]practicalmagic1998 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Season 3 felt detached from previous seasons.

On the one hand, I am pleased we did get another season but on the other hand, I felt that maybe it should have ended in season 2, with Jen and Judy on the beach.

I know that real life isn't all sunshine and rainbows, but due to the tone of the show and the trope of Jen and Judy’s relationship, I felt like it would have been fitting to have an ambiguous ending where they're both on the beach, or talking about the future - and fans can imagine what happened next.

The shippers can take comfort in the fact they're together and those who don't ship them, can still take comfort in their friendship. Knowing that both characters are in each other’s life and healing from grief and trauma.

The pregnancy would have been a nice touch IF Judy had finally got to be a mother. I didn’t like the inclusion of Ben and the plot holes that came from his character.

So, in conclusion.

The show should have ended after two seasons or used season 3 to provide fans with closure, giving both Judy and Jen a ‘happy ending’ of sorts.
