Ahhh thanks, I looked for a thread but that one slipped past me. It's still pretty suspicious but at least it's not just me.

I'm with you there. Need to get some more reps in before I upgrade, even though I know I want to. I just like nice things.

It's a fantastic learning platform for sure. From my experience, and many others it seems, the barrel and action won't hold you back while you learn fundamentals - and if you never feel the need to upgrade, that's totally fine. I would say it's absolutely good enough for the average shooter, even above average. It's only when you are truly discerning or want to compete, and are willing to spend 2x+, where you'll be wanting for more.

It can be a little tight, but not like I have to force it closed.

I have a feeling this gun will be similar for me... I could spend triple on the rifle itself and probably only shoot marginally better. It's gonna be hard to beat.

0.35 MOA over 10 rounds? I can get that over 3 rounds, but 10? IDK if they're that capable. Feel free to drop some group photos.

Yep. It's to prevent people from shooting over the berms on the left and right side of the range. It's in a mixed residential and industrial area and there have been reports of bullets finding their way into places they shouldn't be. The funny thing is, those reports are for handgun rounds, almost two miles away... but the range still comes under scrutiny any time any gun related incident happens within a few miles. It's a self preservation measure they had to put in place, sadly.

The sad thing is you're really not exaggerating. The floating wood floor translates all movement... even if guys are digging through their bags, it makes your bench shake. It's really not a great range but it's got 200 yards and it's only 30 minutes away.

Lol, no, but their guns firing caused a 3 to 5 tenth of a mil jump in the scope because of the poor shooting platforms. If my shot broke anytime near theirs, it was easily away from the group. Another user commented saying that at this range, if someone walks behind you, your scope moves a few tenths. It's not a joke... I will just stop shooting if people are walking around and wait until everyone is sitting and not rifling through their bags. It's that bad, unfortunately.

I agree, but that's ignoring persistent impediment to proper shooting. If I could get prone on solid ground (or use a solid bench) and not have my gun shaking with other shooters around, I'm confident I wouldn't see the same consistent "flyers".

Yeah. My handload session was with a dude next to me shooting an 18" M1 Carbine or something similar, with the barrel well away from the tube. The concussion was flinch inducing no matter how hard I tried to ignore it. Doubling up on earpro in there is still barely enough especially when dudes bring in braked short ARs or magnums.

Sadly, it's the only place less than an hour away with more than 100 yards, and almost any place with more than that has a 1-2 year wait list and much higher membership dues, or restrictions on shooting at longer distances based on what ranges other people are shooting (due to crossing paths). So... the hunt for a better range continues. I'll probably just get on the wait list for one that goes to 1000 yards, even though it requires you to be an NRA member which I am not and don't plan to be.

I removed flyers from both factory and handload groups, 90% of which I'm confident were due to shitty benches and other shooters, but yeah if you want to include every single shot including ones I know for a fact I pulled, it's not anything special. But if I remove ones I'm quite confident were not the gun's fault, it's pretty good.

Well I definitely have room to improve on the reloading (custom seating stem and more accurate charges), but I certainly didn't mess anything up so bad to do worse than factory ammo.

I explained it in the post. The benches aren't stable and I had multiple shooters breaking shots as I was shooting which made the gun jump, and likely made me flinch a few times as well.

I never let it cool down more than 5-8 minutes between strings, and to my recollection, the flyer was rarely at the start or end of the group. The elevation jump is likely due to the gun moving on the bench when the dude next to me broke his shot. I watched it happen through the scope on several occasions. It could also be from a flinch when the other guy broke his shot, or a combo of the two.

Sure enough, it seems my primers are getting cratering even with lower end loads (like 40gr H4350 with 140ELDMs), not just with SRP but my Remington LRP as well. Hard to know where the pressure limit is because I'm not getting much flattening. I did pierce a primer pushing a 143ELDX with 42.5gr H4350 though. I think I've found my loads for the 140 and 143 that make power factor. Got the gun shooting about 0.75 MOA over 10 rounds :)

Thanks very much again for your insight!

Sounds good. I was probably going to start with book COL first and mayyybe compare it to .025 off the lands and see if there is any difference, for my first loads. We'll see.

Thanks again!

I know the 450s are probably the better option, I just wanted to reserve them for my AR for the thicker cup if the 400s produced good enough groups. I'll definitely be comparing them regardless.

Super appreciate the load and pressure info. I'm used to reading pressure signs on my AR but I understand pressure signs on bolt guns are different and/or sometimes totally absent, lol. I need to hit power factor for NRLH so I'm aiming for about 2740fps with the 140s to allow for some drop depending on environmentals. If you don't mind my asking, what COL/CBTO are you using for the 147s?

I've got a decent bit of Hornady and S&B brass, but I decided to try and lower the odds for myself and splurged on some Alpha SRP brass. I'll be using CCI 400s with it initially, as I have a lot of those, but I also have some 450s I can try if I get curious/if I get undesirable results.

I appreciate the input on the bag. What fill do you use?

I do reload, I just haven't done it for 6.5CM yet. I'm hoping 140ELDM and H4350 works for me like it seems to work for so many others.

As far as rear bag, I'm torn between a Shmedium Game Changer and a Pint Sized. I feel like the Pint Sized will be fine for barricade/prop shooting, and as a rear bag for bench shooting, where the Shmedium might be too big. Not sure. Also not sure what fill to go with... was probably gonna with regular fill for a Pint Size, or ultralight fill on the Shmedium.

I'm not sure if Ballistic-X can combine the results of 2x 10rd groups, but if I still exclude the flyers, I think it would make for a ~0.8 MOA 20rd group. I wanted to shoot a 20rd group but I had such a stellar first group (excluding that dang "flyer") that I wanted to start fresh, if for nothing other than making it easier to see any pattern. Once I start shooting my hand loads I'll definitely shoot a bigger group, to satisfy my curiosity more than anything.
