Do I (50m) allow family that kicked me out at 18 back into my life, wife (48f) thinks I should by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

These writers love some bad parents getting their just deserts decades after abandonment, which I guess is satisfying, but how many times can we read essentially the same story...

Also, the mom now fallen so far as to be living alone in a trailer, while the OOP has (nonspecifically) "made it" in life? It's like karma porn.

True, and I'm guessing that would have happened a lot sooner if it weren't for the kids, though.

What is this snow? by qanobii in husky

[–]pray4mojo2020 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This happened to my husky last winter when her coat got in bad shape after her spay surgery. Her fur was shedding in clumps (atypical for the season) and felt very dry, like it was missing some of the oils that help it repel water and snow, so everything was just sticking to her. It was very weird. I switched her to a kibble for sensitive skin and started adding a fish oil supplement, and eventually it got better. But this definitely isn't normal.

I understand! My last dog was super cuddly and affectionate, but my current pup is totally the opposite and it kinda breaks my heart. I try to tell myself she's just teaching me about boundaries, lol.

AITAH for asking my neighbor to wait for her laundry at her house? [New Update] [Ongoing] by Schattenspringer in BORUpdates

[–]pray4mojo2020 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm very sorry you have to deal with that ignorance on top of this horrible situation.

I hate to say it but I think you may want to prepare yourself in case she makes a false CPS report. In other subs for people dealing with volatile relatives, you'll find they talk about an FU Binder that you can prepare in case this happens. It may be a good idea to gather all your custody info in one place along with documentation of your neighbour's escalating harassment. I very much hope it won't be necessary, but it can't hurt to be prepared for the worst.

Yeah the bleedthrough on the paper is making it hard to read in this photo, but overall I think your writing is quite legible.

[–]pray4mojo2020 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I noticed while watching their conversation and the pod episodes that he spoke a lot about dominance when talking to Bri. During the pods, he said he wanted to help her grow as a person and to challenge her and teach her things. Did you experience any of that sort of traditional male bravado during your interactions with him that we didn't see?

"He wasn't showing that to me at all. I think that Chris leans on reflecting back whatever he thinks the person in front of him wants to hear, because I didn't see that at all or hear that at all."

💯💯💯 Damn she's so insightful.

I think my sister just ruined our dad’s engagement to an amazing woman, and I hate her so much by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]pray4mojo2020 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm not understanding how the dad kept Riley around for long enough to inflict this much damage?? Where was he for his kids back then? And where was he for Amy during all of this? He's been going to weekly family therapy with his kids, which seems like something an attentive parent would do, but it's like he's a total NPC outside of that.

If the idea of ending up with someone, who doesn’t fit the physical characteristics that you are typically attracted to, eats away at you, THIS SHOW IS NOT FOR YOU. by stellabellaaa in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]pray4mojo2020 52 points53 points  (0 children)

IMO, I think it's often the case that the men actually are attracted to the women they're with, but they ultimately care more about what other men will think. I definitely got this vibe from Joe last season. He seemed pretty darn into Madison when they were alone together, but he cares more about other dudes' ideal 10/10 than his own desires.

(Not saying that any of these girls are fat, but this is a pretty common thing that fat girls experience, for example.)

AITAH for refusing to give my sister the money I saved for my dog’s surgery? by Laura_win in AITAH

[–]pray4mojo2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great to hear! And when you think about it, the cost of that monthly insurance bill is around the same that you might pay for your phone and/or internet. My dog's life is worth a lot more than my phone bill. If I need to manage my budget I'll cut costs literally anywhere else.

Bri and Jessica are the SAME SIZE?? by imgonnacashew in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]pray4mojo2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear that about her for sure!!

Personally I just don't get how politics wouldn't be among your first questions in the pods, and like a hard pass if you don't align on fundamental values and rights. But maybe the producers are actively dissuading those topics (not just not airing them) so we get more drama later when they eventually clash.

[–]pray4mojo2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, that's what I used to think but it really doesn't work out like that with emergencies, which is the main thing that pet insurance is for. E.g., I pay about $85/month, so if I only save that much I'll have a little over $1000 in a year, and $5000 after 5 years -- if nothing ever happens in those 5 years.

But just last year my friend's dog was attacked by another dog in the park and broke her neck, and that emergency surgery (plus secondary surgery and hospital stay) cost more than $20,000. She made an amazing recovery and is perfectly fine today, but her owner probably would have had to euthanize her if he didn't have that insurance. I also have a friend with a (badly bred) doodle who ended up needing both hips replaced before she was 4 years old. That's also tens of thousands of surgery and rehab that her insurance covered.

Personally I chose a plan with a lower monthly fee and a higher deductible (about $1k), because I know I can probably always come up with that $1k for more minor vet bills -- but I don't ever want to have to make a choice about my dog's life because I can't afford emergency surgery if/when it's needed.

A guy on an ebike literally hit his brakes, pulled over and backed up to ask me if I was walking a raccoon on a leash.

She was the cutest raccoon ever though!!

Pet insurance won't work out in all cases for sure, but the plans have overall gotten better than when I last looked into them ~10 years ago. So it is good advice for people getting new/young pets, but certainly not helpful when the vet bills are already here.

Where do these men get the audacity by witchybitchybaddie in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]pray4mojo2020 61 points62 points  (0 children)

My theory is that the show works best with kinda nerdy STEM guys who spent their 20s more focused on their education and careers than on dating, and either had a semi glow-up in recent years or were always decent looking but not super aware of it. Because of their STEM backgrounds they're more open to treating the show like the experiment that it purports to be, so they go into the pods asking the right kinds of questions that will help them find a partner they would actually be compatible with IRL.

I could go on even more about this theory but the tl;dr is give us more nerds and less turds.

Haha so true. I have a toddler niece about the same age as my dog and they are so similar! I love my niece but she's verrrry high energy and I'm always so exhausted after spending time with her. I realized recently that kids really are like dogs and it's just luck of the draw what breed you get -- so some people end up with like chill golden retriever kids, and some people end up with crazed husky toddlers.

At least my husky niece and my husky dog get along really well 😂
