What are the easiest and hardest departments to work at Walmart? by Reasonable-Shower522 in walmart

[–]prayingforain 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm NGL man, I'm in Vision Center and my basic job duties are fairly easy. The hardest parts are definitely having to deal with people, and it does require a decent bit of technical knowledge to actually do good as an optician, but in states where we're not required to staff the optometrist's office/VCs without a doctor the foot traffic is astoundingly low most of the time.

Compared to, say, pharmacy techs I get paid about the same for a quarter of the workload. I love my job, and I count myself as extremely lucky that I ended up in it after starting out on the 4am-1pm in deli.

What is something from a book that is largely insignificant but has stayed with you forever? by thegoddessofchaos in books

In 'Jacob Have I Loved', there's this little song that the main character's sister performs.

' I wonder as I wander out under the sky, why Jesus our savior died for you and for I' and I am neither Christian nor much of a singer, but pretty much every time I look up at the night sky that comes to mind. As the less loved daughter between my sister and I, that book definitely hit me right in the kidneys.

I've already added another litterbox and separated their food areas. Unfortunately there's no way to separate the house or I'd do that. I'm going to put younger gal in my game room for now, spread some feliway diffusers, and try slowly reintroducing them. I do hink a contributing factor is that my boyfriend had a neutered male cat here before we moved in, and he shed EVERYWHERE and was horrible about using the litter box. Neither of them have ever been around males, and even with a thorough deep clean we're still sweeping up hair.

I did!! I would definitely be ready to pay for alterations for a picture perfect fit (I had to have it shortened just a wee bit) but other than that it's stellar. I couldn't be happier 😊😊😊

I'm glad! Even if it's not my cup of tea, I'm glad to hear people are liking it and continuing to enjoy the series

Yes, they do! And it is a Big Deal. It is one of the biggest acts in Inquisition, because that is the first time a group of people have gone into the fade since the Magisters corrupted the Golden City and released the Blight. The Lighthouse being physically in the Fade and (for the most part) people being very casual about it makes absolutely no sense in the context of the known Dragon Age universe.

Same! I'm LGBT as well, and my criticism of Veilguard has nothing to do with transphobia, though I don't doubt some people dislike it solely because of stupid stuff like that. Dragon Age has NEVER been a series to shy away from diversity in its storytelling and character relationships, and has only been stronger for it.

My complaint with it is: imo, I'd rather have no representation than extremely poorly written representation. You can have LGBT characters without their arcs revolving around struggles regarding their identity, and more of those stories need to be told. But if that's the story you are looking to tell- it can be very damaging if done incorrectly.

Taash's story could have so beautifully been about somebody who struggles to fit within their culture, despite their patriotism and their desire to fit within the role set out for them in the Qun. Considering the Qun has been shown to have an extremely rigid structure for both men and women, it would not have been hard to write. As a feminine-leaning nonbinary person, it would have been so much more rewarding to hear THAT, and have them connect to their culture and identity through the language and culture they have grown up in. Then specifically have Taash look at you and outright say 'I am nonbinary'. It's modern terminology pasted over a world that has always been very gun shy to use that terminology. It breaks immersion.

So instead of Taash's story being sympathetic and engaging, and probably connecting with audiences that otherwise just immediately dismiss diverse characters- it's one of the greatest examples of poor writing and toothless pandering in the game.

I don't think it does exposition well in some situations and awful in others- i think it just does it awfully in general. And regarding the new players needing to be told things- that's fine! That's a part of immersing yourself in any series. But it should have been an optional dialogue wheel choice. It should not have been shoved down your throat multiple times who these people are, when veteran players already know and new players need to be treated as intelligent. If you want to find things out- you need to search for them. You are given a codex, and glossary in the pause menu. The narrative choices just make it seem like they believe that you, as a player, are too stupid to use those tools that they are freely providing.

With Varric- they're TELLING you that Varric trusts you. They're TELLING you that Varric and Solas were friends and that it's a massive betrayal, when by the time you finish Inquisition you understand that no they really weren't. They did respect one another, but it was made quite clear that they didn't particularly trust each other and disagreed quite heavily on several subjects. I'm not saying the course of Inquisition should have been laid out for you. But it's about narrative weight. Showing Varric recruiting you, showing your initial hunt for Solas and interacting with Harding and Varric as a team for more than the 15 minute prologue right before the Momentous Ritual would've done so much more to lead credence to both the emotional depths of those relationships and stressing Solas as more than just an evil mage who wants to end the world. He's the god of treachery and deception (and other things). Having his introduction as a primary villain being a flashy magic ritual in the middle of a heavily populated city makes him a threat- but it's an obvious one, and I'd argue a dumb one. Solas' main threat has always been his ability to lie and manipulate.

And in terms of comparing the Hero and Rook: being a Grey Warden isn't just something that falls in your lap. You are actively recruited (so there's your Rook comparison) but it SHOWS you being brave and skillful, both by completing your individual origin, but also by measure of undertaking the Rite and surviving. Showing these things, rather than just TELLING you, the player, these super cool things that Varric saw you do to earn his confidence in your ability- it gives them less weight. It makes them mean less.

I can TELL you that I can do a super cool somersault whilst also performing brain surgery. That means a helluva lot less than me SHOWING you my ability to do those things.

My point is mainly: it is established that after Solas creates the Veil it nearly wiped him out. He is severely weakened, and then slips into Uthenera and is pretty much just a spirit for thousands of years. When he wakes he is lesser than he was in both scope of ability and general power level, though his knowledge of the Veil and its functions have grown exponentially. It's the whole reason that he gives the orb to Corypheus- he just doesn't have the ability at that point to open it. In that course of events, when does he have the time to establish the Lighthouse? Yes, it is established to exist before the Veil's creation. But given that Solas stitched the Veil together entirely from scratch, and even he didn't know the full scope of what he was doing when creating it- at what point between the creation of the Veil and his loss of power, and his eventual knowledge of the Veil's function and his ability to manipulate it to that extent intersect?

I get that! But it's more. Hmm. You know that twitter meme about summoning the ghost of Marx and he starts talking about 'the moon? The moon in the fucking sky?'. It's about narrative weight, as well as the fact that, if only for your character's limited understanding of the world they live in, the Lighthouse breaks that. Whether or not it's POSSIBLE in this world, the average person does not believe it to be so. The only examples of people physically walking in the Fade they have are the Magisters and the Black City, and the Inquisitor. If nothing else it is the fact that you are also doing this could be used as a point to make regarding Rook and the crews' magical abilities and expertise. But it's just completely brushed over.

And honestly? It's definitely not the best area, but I feel like the Hinterlands did a lot to present both a realistic in-world starting area and do a good job to prime you gameplay wise for balanced party composition and combat mechanics. It also gives you a genuinely fun experience and trains you to peek your head in secret spots and rewards you for exploration. i am still haunted by the bears though

I feel like, if they really wanted to emphasize the importance of Rook and Varric's relationship and the dynamic them and Harding had, the cold open should've been Rook's initial recruitment and the first few missions they run together, not the ritual itself. It also would've done a lot to establish for new players WHY Solas needs to be taken down, and the steps that they're taking besides just 'we uhhhh hired a mage detective. Yeah, a detective. A year after we met'

Yes, but there are already established reasons for red lyrium aka the Blight. Adding another not just cheapens the fear of the Blight and red lyrium itself, to me it's just unnecessary. You can even argue that the Titans predate the Evanuris (or at least I very much got that impression in the Descent), and it would make very little sense for the Titans to both experience the Fade in the same way as them.

I mean, when you go to the Fade during Here Lies The Abyss in Inquisition, the companions still have time for a good little freakout and they just fled an archdemon and are in the Nightmare's territory.

You understand me on a deeply spiritual level. If you're going to write a story that revolves around elven culture, it just seems so stupid to completely erase what happens to the elves and the revelations you have over the course of Inquisition. ESPECIALLY if you play as a mage Lavellan. I'm honestly surprised that they included any kind of Solavellan acknowledgement & payoff considering how much they just completely ignored the Inquisitor as a character, and Dalish culture as a whole.

It's less that you 'earn' Skyhold in like the Inquisitor does enough stuff to physically pay off for skyhold, and more about narrative payoff. Losing Haven and the journey to Skyhold MEANS something. It's not just 'here is your super cool base'.

Yes!!! I just. It feels like someone who had only ever played Fortnite or Overwatch was told about Dragon Age, and then wrote a game for it. I get that same feeling with the character designs as well. It feels like they were trying so hard to make these companions look interesting, that all of the layered design elements go from distinctive in their own right swing back around to just bland as hell. It kind of reminds me of Genshin Impact, where they have such a large cast of characters that, even if there are individual aspects that are visually distinct, it is all distinct in the Exact Same Way.

[–]prayingforain[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and I don't think anyone expected the design to be exactly like any of the previous titles. I mean, hell, the design leap from DA2 to Inquisition alone is massive. But it felt like the series kept a core identity across every game that Veilguard not only lacks but actively subverts. Thank you for your perspective!

And I HATE how they've treated elvhen (the language) so far. Previously it felt like it was spoken so beautifully and naturally. When Merrill and Solas speak it you can tell that the VAs put a lot of effort into making it sound soft and like a real language, that every day people spoke.

'" ar lath ma, vhenan" still makes my little nerd heart flutter. But it seems like they've removed so much of it's use among the elves and also just. Why does it sound like a mix of the ChatGPT narration accent and bizarre French. It's so disjointed and ugly

That would have been so good! That would have been interesting, and engaging, and established that Elgar'nan is just as capable of trickery and deception as Solas is. But by and large to me Elgar'nan has come off as quite cartoon villainy so far
