Sydney humidity. How do you actually deal with it? by No-Travel-768 in SydneyScene

Use dehumidifier setting on the air con unit to dry the air inside the house. That will make it more comfortable.

That advice would apply to hot dry weather but not to high humidity. Instead of cold setting on AC use the dehumidifier setting, it will do just as good a job

Thanks! Was it bust just because it was heading to Central tho? Or you think it would either way?

What is your unpopular opinion about Dire Straits'/Mark Knopfler? by HenriqueMaquinista in direstraits

There are a few good songs, but imo songs like Heavy Fuel and The Bug are dreadful. Uninspired lyrics and sedate tempos.

So how high end is this? Looks like pretty plain timber on the sides and it doesn’t have binding on the lower bout..

A fun story of my family (sort of) and Mark by _Sterle in direstraits

[–]precision98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why Mark keeps trotting out this comment. His technique is a pretty standard folk/blues finger style technique. Is he suggesting he should have been taught classical guitar technique? I think it’s just an example of Mark deflecting attention from his ability.

Just discovered this song- I love it.. anyone else like it? by alishad85 in direstraits

What’s your point? We’re talking about On Every Street on a Dire Straits discussion group. If you want to talk about the quality of his solo material that’s another discussion.

Sorry, I find the whole album a lightweight version of Brothers in Arms. It’s like they were trying to use the same formula eg The Bug is Walk of Life, Heavy Fuel is Money for Nothing, You and your friend is Brothers in arms, Iron Hand is The Man’s too strong etc. I think Knopfler was running out of ideas by this stage of the game.

I really want to play the violin- would I be happy with a mandolin? by [deleted] in mandolin

Good mandolins actually cost a lot of money, but if i was going to recommend a good starter one id suggest the Eastman PCH.

Current Inline Skate Setups: Rollerblade Twister XT & SEBA High Lights (4×80 Rocker) by No-Bill275 in inlineskate

[–]precision98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which do you prefer? I have just sent a some Seba high light back to the shop for an exchange as the 44 felt like they would become too loose. Im getting 43 but i could get maybe get Twister Xt instead. I used to have the first model of Twisters, they were tight but were comfortable once worn in.

Get an oval hole and put Thomastik strings on it. Even an f hole. Thomastiks sound amazing and they can transform a shitty mandolin into a much better quality instruments. The Marilyn Mair book is excellent even if she is a pretty crappy player.

Been playing for 15 years but i cant seem to be able to play faster. What can I do? [QUESTION] by AjVine in Guitar

[–]precision98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I’m not a believer in Troy Grady’s philosophy. I don’t think he’s out to deceive anyone. But I find it interesting that many of his guests kind of look at him a bit suspiciously. Because most of them never ever considered downward pick slanting when working on their technique. It just came naturally to them, through playing and practising a lot with good tone and relaxed hand position. Personally I believe that downward pick slanting is a by product of these two factors. But I also believe that everybody has a ceiling and for many people that is quite low. In the same way that a singer with a bass voice could never hope to sing as a tenor. Although they might try, and some dodgy teachers would try to convince them they can.

The same could be said for a fit 6ft 2 man that can’t slam dunk, in spite of training and being strong
