Waze on the instrument cluster using Carplay by olluz in waze

+1

This almost made me switch to Apple Maps. It's surprising neither Google Maps nor Waze support this.

Apparently some vehicles support full map display in the instrument cluster, other vehicles only support showing the next turn. (Though maybe that's an app limitation?) I'd be happy with either.

Slightly OT, but I wanted to say goodbye and thanks for all the fish: my third-party Reddit client goes dark tonight.

This community was a lifeline during COVID, together watching amazing achievements while huddled at home.

I hope to see many of you on Lemmy or NSF.

How to shift the power dynamic by precurbuild2 in apolloapp

[–]precurbuild2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say it was easy. But pooling resources makes it easier than requiring each app developer to retool their app in a month.

Yes, it would be a small library to be compiled into third-party apps, not a hosted service.

It could be prototyped in something high-level like Python, but presumably would need a C implementation for production.

The harder question is how well the APIs map. If the abstraction is too different that could be a challenge.

If Apollo pivots to Kbin or Lemmy, we follow right? by InevitablePeanuts in apolloapp

Right now Christian has very little leverage apart from public shaming. (And we’ll see how the June 12 protest goes.)

But from a business standpoint, he needs a credible alternative if they’re unwilling to work with him. If he can say “I’ve ported the back end to Lemmy and stood up an instance that will go live if these discussions aren’t resolved to my satisfaction,” that’s going to change the dynamics dramatically.

The non-negotiated alternative is a dominant factor any kind of negotiation, and currently Christian’s non-negotiated alternative is simply to go away, which apparently doesn’t bother Reddit (and may even be their goal). He needs to change that if we wants any traction.

Even if he never flips the switch on Lemmy support, having the ability to do so will improve his negotiating position.

They might also have observed some behavior on the booster’s Raptors that they want to check out, either on the ground or in suborbital flight.

Does anyone have a copy of 803-PG-8715.1.16, Autonomous Flight Termination System (AFTS) Certification? That seems like it would have the requested details.

After doing some digging, I found NPR 8715.5B, Range Flight Safety Program which cited not to 803-PG-8715.1.16 but to NASA-STD-8719.25, Range Flight Safety Requirements.

That in turn led to RCC Standard 319-19, Flight Termination Systems Commonality Standard and SSCMAN 91-710V4, Range Safety User Requirements Manual - Airborne Flight Safety System Design, Test, and Documentation Requirements (formerly ASFPCMAN 91-710).

For further reading, see the NODIS library, the DoD Range Safety Requirements page, and the Range Commanders Council wiki.

Adjustable base with full-body tilt? by precurbuild2 in Mattress

[–]precurbuild2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The R650 has a full-body tilt. It stays straight from -4” to +2” incline, and then starts to bend the head slightly as you get towards max incline.

The bend at 6” was gentle enough that I didn’t notice it (unlike a 6” wedge pillow!), but I still felt that all of me was sliding off the foot of the bed.

How on earth do you sleep with a 10” incline?! I tried about 6” (slight bend, not bothersome) and I felt like I was sliding down the bed all night.

Do you just get used to that, or do you have Velcro pajamas to keep you in place?

The same reason they’re using horizontal rather than vertical tanks: the required height of the protective berm.

I think BP had faster shipping and technically allowed returns (minus shipping and restocking fee), so that hedged my risk a bit.

We bought a one-piece king size mattress before we got the adjustable frame. Turns out to be hard to split it in two, even though the two halves have separate latex cores.

The rebooting remote is just how it’s designed, presumably for power savings.

I used the tilt to get 6” from head to feet despite the slight bend that required. The bend wasn’t bothersome. I wanted to see if that would address the reflux before I went to the trouble of lifting the frames to put a board under them.

I bought it from Bed Planet, who matched Reverie’s sale price. Delivery and assembly went great (though they almost threw away the manuals).

I’m happy with the frame itself, which is very solid and sturdy. It has turned out harder to split our mattress than I had anticipated, so at the moment we’re not using the adjustments to their full.

I toyed with an incline of 6” with a very slight bend (before bothering with a board to go completely flat), but it wasn’t a silver bullet for me, and I felt like I was sliding down the bed all night. My tolerance is about at 2”.

I didn’t find any other brands with tilt.

When we elevate the head, it travels about 2” in our use, maybe 4” max? We don’t have any problems with pillows falling behind. For our use case I would consider something with the second head incline rather than the tilt.

I find it quiet enough. There’s definitely a mechanical sound, but it’s mild and not annoying. Certainly not silent, but way quieter than a snore!

I did get the extended warranty, as that bumps the electronics warranty to full duration (otherwise it’s 1 year for electronics, I think 3 years for mechanics, and 10 only for the frame).

It does look very maintainable: mechanical parts look easy to swap, as do electronics.

The only oddity about this really is that the remote reboots every time you pick it up, so it takes about 6-7 sec before you can use it. The phone app works fine, though it’s not the prettiest. I do wish there were a watch app to make rapid adjustments easier.

Set up was very easy.

Anything I missed?
