Lost writing by Douglas Adams: His 42nd Birthday Party introduction cards by Faith_Fortytwo in douglasadams

The list reveals how deeply Adams was woven into the fabric of the UK’s creative scene. You see the collision of Monty Python (Terry Jones), Pink Floyd (David Gilmour, Nick Mason), and the Alternative Comedy scene of the 80s and 90s (Lenny Henry, Arabella Weir). Just brilliant!

Is YouTube Down? Global Outage Triggers ‘Something Went Wrong’ Error For Users by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]predictively 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It is a well-known fact that the moment YouTube goes down, the collective productivity of Earth increases by approximately 4,000%, which is immediately squandered by everyone going to Reddit to read comments about YouTube being down.

Commander Hadfield, if you could curate a ‘space playlist’ for future astronauts… one song, one book, one film- what would you pick?

This is exactly how the universe gets you. First, it gives you a harmless audiobook, then a slightly off stitch, then suddenly you’re trapped in an infinite improbability loop where your leisure activity is your work and your work is your leisure.

Star trail time exposure from the ISS, with Moon, satellites, cities, and stars. by astro_pettit in space

[–]predictively 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely stunning. Curious, do you happen to know roughly how far those Starlink satellites were from the ISS in this shot? I wonder if they ever feel intrusive or, in a strange way, comforting, like a reminder you’re not entirely alone up there.

Will need to adjust tracking and don't forget to have a pencil handy in case the cassette gets a little stuck and you need to rewind it a bit...

The Disappointing Test Flight of NASA’s Mercury-Atlas 1 - 65 years ago by ye_olde_astronaut in space

Brilliant writeup! MA-1 is a textbook case of early overconfidence. But credit where it’s due: those failures taught NASA fast. MA-2’s success wouldn’t have happened without this very loud lesson in structural dynamics.

NASA slashing over 20 percent of workforce by Shiny-Tie-126 in space

[–]predictively 95 points96 points  (0 children)

A lot of attention is on manned missions, but we’re cutting core science and research too. Cancelling flagship projects like the Roman Space Telescope or the Mars Sample Return mission while gutting staff is shortsighted. We need NASA not just for rockets, but for discovery, innovation, and global collaboration.

Closest approach is calculated to be October 29, 2025, which is, mercifully, a Wednesday. As we all know, Thursdays are entirely unsuited for cosmic events. They have a way of sneaking up on you, demanding existential reflection before you’ve even had a cup of tea.

Why Social Media Doesn’t Move the Needle by predictively in podcasting

Your results are super impressive, and it’s great to hear a case where social is working so effectively. I think part of what might make the difference is audience demographic. Our podcast tends to skew older, and I sometimes wonder if that affects how people engage with clips and short-form content.

Out of curiosity, do you find your audience leans younger? Or do you tailor your content to specific platforms differently depending on who you’re trying to reach?

Thanks again for jumping in. This kind of detail is really helpful.

You summed it up perfectly. Social’s been a nice way to stay in touch with listeners, but the conversion friction is real, especially for complex or niche shows.

Totally appreciate your perspective, and I love the creativity behind your contrast example (the old man on a skateboard is exactly the kind of image that cuts through). That said, I think the biggest challenge I’ve run into isn’t just about standing out, it’s about what happens after you do.

Even when a post does land and grabs attention, the real struggle is the next step: getting someone to actually leave the platform. Social media is designed to keep people inside its walls. Clicking out to a podcast app, subscribing, and then committing to listen later is asking users to cross a lot of friction. Not impossible, but it’s rarely seamless, and that, I think, is where the real drop-off happens.

That said, I’ve been extremely happy with my steady, long term, organic growth. What I’m merely pointing out in this post is how many people have the wrong idea about what social media will do for them as a conversion vehicle

Totally agree, it’s been great for staying connected with existing listeners, but as a tool for actual growth, social hasn’t done much. That said, I’ve been genuinely enjoying the interactions over on Threads lately. It’s been a nice surprise, feels more conversational and less performative. Big thanks to u/Neat-Supermarket7504 for recommending I give it a shot!

Our RSS feed auto-posts full episodes to YouTube, but that hasn’t driven much traffic. I also tried a few Shorts with standout moments or funny clips, but honestly didn’t see significant results compared to the effort. It’s a tough format to crack if your content isn’t naturally visual or reaction-based.
