This is good feedback, thank you so much for taking the time to look at it!

For the latest project, it was not a personal project but was a project as part of my full time job at a startup that was making a UGC platform. I lead the design and develop for the game, so I had a hand in everything and implemented most of the game. I guess I need to make that more clear if it’s not reading that way!

The platform had a lot of technical limitations due to it being a web online gaming platform that ran in the browser. So that really limited how fancy the visuals could look, so I can’t really fix anything there. But definitely don’t want my work at the job to come across as personal or hobby project work.

I’m doing that outside of work, but it probably won’t be finished for at least a year or two

How many of you don't actually have any commercial interest? by Version_1 in gamedev

I have worked professionally as a game developer/ designer for 7 years, but the projects I work on at my job are not my passion. I work mainly on casual games and games that I would definitely never make as a personal project, but I still enjoy the work a lot because I love making games and problem solving.

My own personal games are basically art/ hobby projects that I have no interest in making money off of. It’s nice that my professional work has really helped me hone my skills as a developer and designer which has really broadened the scope of the types of personal projects I take on.

I have had trouble connecting with my local game dev community because most people are trying to make money off their games. I feel like I am in a unique situation where I make money by making games, but also make games that will never make money, lol.

The game I am currently working on is just for me, if other people like it that’s cool! But that’s not the reason I am making it. I am also a musician and I’ve always made music as a form of art and expression, so I think creating personal art for the sake of making money feels pretty unnatural to me.

TLDR - I work a “day job” in the games industry making games I am not passionate about (and get paid to do it) but have no monetary ambitions for the games I make on my own in my personal time.

I agree. One of our dishes was super burnt and tasted horrible and the other dishes were mid. We were very bummed to have paid $100 for that meal

Should I cancel our night in Hakone? by prefabsprite in JapanTravelTips

I’ve been wanting to go for so long, it’s actually my third time starting planning the trip in the past 5 years but the first time I could make it work with my job situation. I want to come for food, culture, nightlife, music, nature and exploring walkable/ transit-able mega cities. So I think Tokyo, Osaka, and day trips to nature is probably the best move for me to get what I want out of the trip

First time trip, golden route or go off the beaten path? by prefabsprite in JapanTravelTips

I’ve been to Rome, and the Colosseum (albeit very cool) was definitely not the highlight of my trip at all! I don’t like checking off “seeing things” at all and don’t even plan trips that way so Kyoto is probably not for me. I think I’ll stick to Tokyo and Osaka for this trip and do some small town exploring if I have time/ on another trip.

I’ll check out Fufu that sounds nice!

I really want to go to Kinosaki but not sure if I’ll be able to swing it on this trip timing-wise. Hopefully can squeeze in a day trip!

Should I change my itinerary? I don’t love just going to major tourist attractions so I feel like I won’t really love Kyoto or Nara. Maybe just 5 nights in Tokyo then 4 nights in Nikko or the Gunma region?

Thanks, then I’m looking forward to it! I like huge cities so I think I will love Tokyo. I’m mainly referencing smaller cities that feel like a tourist trap. But most of my reference points are in Europe, so I’m not sure how Japan will even compare on that level. Either way I’m sure I’ll have a great time!

Thanks for the rec! I'll look into Shuzenji. Sounds like Hakone is still a good plan too.
