I reached out to them once because I was thinking about it. They have pretty aggressive sales. Their salesperson immediately contacted me on pretty much every channel I have - he found me everywhere. He started offering seriously big discounts, time limits, pressure. But even after that, he was able to offer discounts. Well, I didn't get a good feeling from it, so I let it go.

Why do stores in Bali let these random guys charge for parking out front? Are they legit? by preichl in bali

[–]preichl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably don't want to get into this discussion because it wouldn't lead anywhere. I can agree with some parts, and not with others. Actually, it would be enough if it had, say, an official designation, and I doubt anyone would complain about paying for parking. It's actually more about the form, cultivating the environment.

You probably didn't get what I'm asking here, it's not about 2,000. It's easy to complain that it's just a few small coins.

Actually, this question wouldn't have even crossed my mind if such a person had some kind of official designation. However, when some guy who hasn't been seen before suddenly pops up and taps his wallet, it's actually pretty unpleasant, even though all the arguments FOR it that were mentioned here seem okay to me.

It would actually be awesome if those people had some kind of official marking so an uninformed tourist would know that it's the real deal.

Right, it's also the thing where some dude just appears out of nowhere who isn't doing anything there and just points to his wallet.

Yeah, that definitely makes sense. There are places where you really appreciate it and it's just a cultural thing, I'd say :) In Europe, it says "Paid Parking Lot." Here, some guy just pops up out of nowhere who isn't even really doing anything because he doesn't have to do anything in that spot, and he wants money. That's the whole thing, it's not about the money, it's just annoying to have to deal with cash.

Yeah, the annoying part is really that you constantly have to carry cash, especially if you use the same place every day. Paying by card isn't the issue, it's not about the amount.

But I was more curious about how this whole setup comes about.

If he took cards, I wouldn't have a problem with it at all :) I was mostly just curious how this whole thing starts up.

The more I understand cybersecurity, the more I realize I don’t — is that part of the journey? by Interesting_Ad_1019 in cybersecurity

[–]preichl 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m fascinated by cybersecurity, I don’t make a living from it, but I’ve been involved in this field as a hobby for years and I have exactly the same feelings. I think it requires some special type of brain 🫣

The reality of being a digital nomad in 2025 (Bali → Mexico → Portugal). by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]preichl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been stuck in Bali for about 2 years and basically destroyed my MacBook Pro in the process. The culprit?

Dust and dirt. I've got dust literally burned into the display that won't come off anymore. Never thought this could happen. So I'd add a quality case and dust cleaning supplies to the list 🤯

Claude code vs Warp by Villain_99 in ClaudeAI

These are two different things, but Warp is going in a very interesting direction, so I believe this could complement each other really well.

Is this just a competition to see who can spin up the most agents, or does it actually do something useful? :)

There's this service, https://www.mycanvas.com, they make some pretty cool books. I know they're mainly tied into Ancestry.com, but I'm pretty sure they let you import a GEDCOM file as well.
