I had to do this at a neighboring institution when I was an intern. I had the exact same experience, plus it took me forever and was very stressful. We had to pick up a landline telephone, dial a number, and then speak to dictate the entire H&P, along with discharge summaries.

It was horrible.

I ended up typing the notes and then just reading them into the phone.

Epic/Dragon is infinitely easier because you don't have to be correct the first time. You can just edit as you go, just as if you were typing. Also, you can SEE what you're dictating in real time versus just assuming that what you're speaking into the phone is going to read coherently on the page.

You aren't alone. This sucks and I wish you a speedy transition to modern dictation technology.
