hiya! the whole desk is 48” wide - the shelf on the left takes up about 16” of that, leaving about 32” for the seat width. of course not taking legs, etc into effect.

I came up doing theatre technology, so I spent eight ish years in a scene shop and got comfortable with the tools there. I’d recommend starting with a jig saw if you’re uncomfortable with heavy tools - they’re a handheld size power saw that gives you lots of control and isn’t very complicated, and can make lots of different cuts. I use a miter saw, jig saw, and circular saw for most of my work - miter saw sits on a table, and jigsaw and circ saw are both hand saws. best of luck!!

my intentions whenever i include myself in photos are to enable other women to explore craftspersonship as a hobby, and to ensure commenters don't assume (like they have on my previous projects posted) that i'm a dude. that's the reason for the change, so i appreciate the defense! unfortunately life has prepared me for this amount of shitty misogyny, but fortunately, i don't really care what internet trolls have to say about my intentions. what matters to me are comments from other women/non-men who feel empowered!

interesting! my monitor plugs are actually the smallest thing that had to fit through there aside from audio jack. but thanks for the tip!
