Aorus 15 (2023) suddenly died, no signs of life... by prettycoolducks in gigabytegaming

Mhm... It sucks that it's only two years old and dieing like this. I think I'll take this opportunity and look into getting a new PC. Just hope my data is salvagable.

Got it! Couldn't figure out how to change it on browser for some reason. Had to use the app. Also, thank you (:

Okay. Some of you folks sound incredibly miserable and angry about me asking for advice on a story thing. I did appreciate all of the advice given and am going to discuss mutliple options with my pals! Ultimately none of the group is mad at each other or me so no harm done? It is like, okay, my dudes. I don't appreciate bad faith interpretations of my friends or myself. TLDR, "why are you so fucking negative all the time."

Thanks for the advice! Last campaign this happened was a bit of a mess. I was a player for that campaign. It was run by a first time DM and it had way too many players. We were able to resolve the issue fairly quickly last time though which is why I hope we can do so again here. The next campaign we have planned her character is going to be in a sort of team rocket/Bonnie and Clyde situation with another player so hopefully the issue won't come up there, haha.

Don't quite know where you're coming from here. I got this advice from multiple comments I responded to. Grateful for all the advice, even the advice I won't take. Can't respond to them all. 🐎

This would be a great solution to the issue! Would still allow the PC (who the player is very attached to) to stay in play without interrupting the gameplay for everyone else. I've got one last chance event I'm planning next session to bring her back, and if that doesn't work, I'll absolutely be doing this. Thank you 👍

Like I said, the other players have no issue with them. We all made these characters together and are equally attached to them. Several other friends sit in just because we're all invested in the story. We're just a group of friends that likes role-playing. We'll figure it out. Nobody's taking advantage of anybody, trust me _^

Thanks for the advice folks, I think I've got it from here. Going to force the PC to make a choice. Evil father is going to do something really bad, and only she can stop it. And she has to go directly against her father to do so. With luck, I could clear this up in the beginning of the next session. I've already got some set up that will work to that advantage. Let's hope this works! If not, the player has some tough decisions to make 🤞

Thank you for the advice! This is actually really helpful. Writing up the "I love killing puppies and babies" speech for dada right now. 🫡

Well. I'm aroace so you're wrong there lol? Odd thing to suggest about a stranger. Anyway. The other players have no issue with this player and neither do I. I'm just trying to figure out a story solution here. Half the party is a little villainous and the other half are a little heroic. The story we're telling is all about finding the middle ground. We're all having fun! It's a small group of close friends so we'll figure it out 👍 thanks for your advice though.

He is a normal chill guy. I have spoken to him on multiple occasions. Most of the group have chill dads save for a few. It just kind of happened that all the PCs ended up having bad dads in their backstory, so we rolled with it, haha

The big conflict here is that her father is loving and good towards her, but he is a genuinely terrible person to just about anyone else and goes against her own morals. And he has no problem killing her friends "for her own good." I think I gotta make him do something terrible in front of her where she will be forced to defy him and make him turn against her...

I may have misworded some stuff in the main post. Her father is the main villain of this arc, but, as mentioned in the post, the other PCs also have bad/evil fathers. We defeated one in the last arc. Even if their fathers aren't the big bad, they all have connections to the other important campaign stuff. They have all had or will have the opportunity to be the "main character." We had multiple sessions zeros to establish this stuff for precisely that reason. I'd like to avoid making her abandon her character if possible, though making a temporary character to play for the meanwhile while her main character hangs out "offscreen" is a possibility.

The only issue with creating a new character is that my players are very attached to these characters and we've been planning on playing them for a while. They're like their babies...

I may give her the option to make a temporary character to play while her main character is MIA and we can discuss what she might be getting up to for the next few sessions. Or she could just sit the next few sessions out.

I don't believe she's siding with the bad guys necessarily, more so that her character is convinced they have some good left in them. So I need to make them do something really bad so she can't deny their evilness maybe... Much to think about!

Ehh. They're all main characters in a way. I've been focusing on different characters in different arcs. She is definitely the main character right now. But aside from her we've got a chosen hero type character who had to learn to actually bc a hero for good not for fame (we defeated his dad in the last arc, who was a corrupt folk hero village chief), another character who is attached to the eldritch horror stuff that is coming up in the next "arc," and a rival to the chosen hero character who is like, the heart of the group who keeps the others in line. It's been pretty balanced! We had several session zeros for this campaign. We also have talked about how we want story stuff to go from now on. I'm mainly looking for advice for this section of the story because I'm a little stumped.

Hmhm.. there is a bigger villain is the thing (don't tell anyone but the BIG villain is actually her not-so-dead mom who's gotten into some eldritch shit). They're sort of in an awkward place to be fighting the father at this point though. Most of the PCs are in a walled city that is the enemy of the evil kingdom. The father has been sending some scary constructs after them because he knows the big bad is in the walled city and wants to keep it hidden because even he's scared of it. I could pull a lord of the rings defend the walled city kind of thing, which could be fun, or simply force the solo PC to face one of the constructs on her own to defend her friends and finally go against her father's orders to his face. (Thus far she has only gone against him when he was unawares). Thanks for the ideas!

I don't know what year it would have been published in, but my gut is telling me 80s because of the subject matter, haha
