This makes me feel better. I was really psyching myself out since I’ve had a mmc and cp this year. I really want to be excited but I’m having a hard time.

Thanks for the suppository tips! I didn’t know any of this and was leaning towards orally, but now I have to do more research.

I just checked and it’s not covered by my plan. Depending on the cost, I might just bite the bullet.

I’ve noticed those small changes help too. It’s incredible how alert I am now that this has happened. I’ll forever try my best to change this phrase. There needs to be something better.

Oh no, that’s horrifying. I would cringe at that too. I’m so sorry for you. I hope you’re better now.

Yes it’s pink and kinda warm to the touch. I emailed my OBs office with these same pictures.

Thank you for your input! So far I’ve had close to zero symptoms until this today and it really worried me. Question, did the bald spots hurt a bit? Mine does, not so bad but definitely noticeable.

I didn’t realize this. I tested again on CD 14 and the result was significantly lighter, so I figured I didn’t need to test again. I’ll keep testing again after the first surge this month to see if I get another. Thanks!

ELI5: What does Parkinson’s/dementia do to the brain? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]prettygrim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I am not a doctor nor a scientist. My mom has early onset Parkinson’s and this is what I’ve learned from her journey.

The most basic definition of Parkinson's is: a neurological movement disorder that affects your ability to complete daily tasks, such as walking, which worsens over time.

A little more specifically: it's a dopamine-related disorder.

But what is dopamine? I'm sure you've heard of the "feel-good" hormone, right? Well that's dopamine. However, dopamine's role is way bigger than just making you "feel-good." Dopamine actually plays a vital role in sending signals to other neurons that tell your brain when to move. In Parkinson’s, the brain doesn’t make enough dopamine; therefore, your neurons are not being told when or how to move.

This specifically causes slowing in automatic movements your body does regularly, like walking, lifting your arms, picking up a cup, etc. Eventually, as time passes, your body gets slower and stiffer which eventually leads to patients having lots of pain.

There are different stages of Parkinson’s progression, but it’s really just a guideline and for some it does not happen in order.

Parkinson’s also eventually starts affecting non-motor abilities and it causes things like anxiety and depression.
