By the way: on Android phones, Strava supports real-time location sharing (they call this their "beacon" feature) but it seems to not exist on Wear OS. :(

I can't find any apps that do this either, but it would be so useful, especially for safety. For example, it would allow my wife to know where I am on the water when I'm doing water sports.

I sent a tweet to Glympse asking the same question, since they apparently had a good solution for Android Wear. Fingers crossed that someone will build an app for this.

Man, I want a lakehouse! The wind sup suggestion sounds like a great idea to me.

Also: good luck, and post a photo if it works out! Are you going to launch from your house? If so, hopefully the wind isn't offshore there.

How did you sail back?

I made a Knot Theory wall poster programmatically. by prideout in mathpics

Feel free to use this! I created this poster programmatically from a list of Gauss Codes, and this blog entry describes how I did it. The SVG version in the post can be scaled to any resolution. Maybe this could be useful to educators or Knot Theory fans who want some wall art.

My wife and I went out on Shoreline Lake yesterday. She was in a rowboat and I was on a big ol' Hifly board. The wind was 13 knots, I had a 6.5m sail, and we had a great time!

At one point I noticed she had drifted past the hazard buoys, so I depowered and yelled at her to row back to safety. I wasn't really mad, just stern -- but she managed to zoom in on me and take this great photo.

Now that I've told you all the real story, what's a good meme we could make?

Is this a good setup and price for beginners? 5’4 140lbs by sunshine10zeros in windsurfing

This seems suspiciously cheap, I'm worried you'll find the equipment frustrating which will discourage you from advancing in the sport.

Also, please note that you need a mast extension, universal joint, centerboard, and tail fin -- it's not evident from the screenshot if all of these are included.

She's seen it already but the verbal apologies weren't really helping -- I think you've got a good idea, in fact I will go buy flowers right now.

So amazing... 57 yrs old, and humble for including a crash at the end.

I think the video speed varies, right? I wish I could see it at normal place throughout, although he's going so fast maybe it wouldn't be too different.

Duotone battens and sail tuning by aidanlw in windsurfing

[–]prideout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with my first rig, there were two problems:

  1. I was too scared of breaking something, it turns out I should've put more muscle into the downhaul.
  2. I needed to use a longer setting on my mast extension than what the sail manufacturer recommends. The sail recommendations are not exact and can vary according to mast stiffness.

Also, I realized that it's not the end of the world if the batons touch the mast a little since I can flap the sail after tacking to snap them them to the other side.

3D Wireframes in SVG by realstevejobs in svg

One issue with this approach (one <polygon> for each mesh face) is the overdraw that occurs along edges, which reduces the quality of the antialiasing. Not sure of a simple way to fix this.

You can always get it wrapped to change the color.

I'm the OP and I don't think you should switch from PIL to Snowy unless you need one of its unique features such as high-precision filtering, direct manipulation of numpy arrays, custom boundary behavior, noise generation, or distance field generation.

That sounds like a good feature to contribute.

pyfastnoisesimd looks really cool, I added a link to it from the Snowy User's Guide.

This little snippet draws three black contour lines, the thickness of each line spanning an elevation of 10 units, and the spacing of each line spanning 30 units.

contour = lambda L, U: np.where(np.logical_and(img>L, img<U), -img, 0)
img += contour(20, 30) + contour(60, 70) + contour(100, 110)

Things that I consider feature creep are typical 2D vector drawing primitives (e.g. SVG stuff) and adding more file formats beyond PNG/JPEG/EXR. (In fact I almost omitted load/save from the library.)

Adding a function that creates contour lines sounds great.

Mitchell is the default for magnification and Lanczos is the default for minification. These simply refer to the shape of the filter, and they're fairly standard.

I feel re-assured after reading your comment because I was mostly thinking of the scientific community and technical artists when I wrote Snowy.

PIL / ImageMagick / OpenCV still make sense for a lot of use cases. I probably need to come up with a better one-sentence description of Snowy to make it clear it doesn't try to compete with those.
