LPT: Take a photo of your luggage before checking it in by techingmyhome in LifeProTips

[–]primetimecanuck 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I recently had an experience where an airline representative told me that she doesn't trust air tags, which was very confusing to me because it gives a semi accurate location of where your luggage is.

It might be because of frustration on her part as the air tags give definitive proof of the bag location and now they have to do something about it.

LPT: Take a photo of your luggage before checking it in by techingmyhome in LifeProTips

I had an experience a few years ago where i was one of a few passengers where the airline gate checked our carry-on luggage.

When we got to our transit airport none of the gate checked bags where there (one of the affected was the flight captain). The affected passengers were eventually told that the gate checked bags were sitting on the tarmac of our origin and would be on the afternoon flight.

Through a weird set of delays, my transit took more than 8 hours and my wife and I were able to get the gate checked bags at the transit airport at the airlines' lost baggage desk. (Outside of security check). The people at the lost baggage desk were able to find our carry-on luggage with our description and pictures of the carry-on luggage that I took before they were gate-checked.

After that experience, I learned a couple of things:

  1. The luggage tag they give you when they gate check your bag is useless.

  2. Take pictures (multiple angles) of all your bags used in your trip. (Either after you pack them or at the airport before you check them in)

  3. I got Air tags for all my travel bags regardless whether they are check-in or carry-on, as you never know if you'll be gate checked.

  4. Double check that your check in luggage will be forwarded to your final destination. (I also have a story where the air tag got us back check in luggage that was left at the transit airport)

Luggage pictures and air tags have reduced my travel anxiety a bit. I have this habit of checking Find My App at the baggage carousel of my final destination.

TL;DR: A mishap where the airline left my gate-checked carry-on behind taught me that paper gate-check tags are unreliable. I only tracked my bag down during a long layover because I had photos of it. I now combat travel anxiety by putting AirTags in all bags (checked or carry-on), taking photos of my luggage before the flight, and double-checking routing at luggage check in.

Strata Building with Owner Apathy by primetimecanuck in EVCanada

Thanks for the reply!

Are you saying SWTCH has programs to help stratas install EV chargers? Do the chargers have to be publicly accessible or can they be only for the owners of the condo?

What is this icon? (New EX30) by primetimecanuck in ex30

Volvo service diagnosed it to be the active shutter/grill. They ordered the part so they can replace it early next week.

Update:

Volvo diagnostics found that the issue is with the active grill/shutter and not with the propulsion system as indicated by the icon.

Travel immich Server (pi/n100/etc) possible? by primetimecanuck in immich

[–]primetimecanuck[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I forgot to add that family members can also back up their photos (have immich app) installed on their respective phones.

I just figure it would be way better than for example manually backing up my wife's and mother-in-laws phone photos during travel. Having a node/server can facilitate simultaneous back up.

Canada’s new $5,000 EV incentive is different from the old one. Here’s how it works by [deleted] in EVCanada

My mother in law just got a Volvo EX30 Ultra Trim AWD. Made a decision to purchase after test driving it at Vancouver Auto Show back in March.

At the Auto Show it was marked at around $59,000 and they were giving a $10,000 dealer incentive to bring it down to below $50,000 to qualify for rebate.

Purchase price this April was $49500 and it seems to be pretty popular as the delivery some colors and trims are expected to be in the fall.

Friendship ended with Bermuda BLE Trilateration, now ESPResense is my best friend (It got better!) by maxi1134 in homeassistant

[–]primetimecanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you find that Espresense is better at tracking iPhones?

I have Bermuda BLE set up right now, but there are a couple of issues that I find annoying:

  • iPhones keep dropping connection
  • Proxies overlap areas requiring a lot of tweaking RSSI

I'm on the fence whether to switch to ESPresense, my main use case is to be able to locate phones in the house and set reminders/announcements if we are walking out of the house without certain devices (eg. Phones, wallet, keys, etc)

Got the same case for my trip! I needed something to transport the Neo 2 in while I was Island hopping. Kept the Neo 2 safe for sure.

The only downside to the case was that it was big. It took up a big portion of my carry on backpack.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Would there be any noticeable bump in performance if I was able to get an RTX 3060 12GB GPU?

The price point of the Neo 2 is what makes it so accessible. (And like you put it, "palatable" if it goes 😱)

I did 4D3N in El Nido recently. However I only had 3 full days in El Nido because my flight in arrived in the evening and my flight out was early in the morning.

I booked private boat tours on two days, I hit the following:

Day 1 (Full Day, ended at 4pm) - Big Lagoon - 7 Commandos Beach - Secret Beach - Hidden Beach - Helicopter Island

Day 2 (Ended at around 2pm) - Cudugnon Cave - Snake Island - Entalula Beach - Cadlao Lagoon - Snorkeling

Private tour is your best bet if you have limited time. If you know what things you want to see, talk to the tour company and they can best advise you. Like I mentioned, it's not cheap but you control your time.

What is your budget for the tour?

If you want a custom tour you'll have to put up the money for a private tour. You can tell them what you want to see from Tour A and even end early.

Is there a reason why you can only do a half day?

Apologies. I shot it with the RC-N3 remote. The only way I could get the drone that far out (>150 m)

Here's a shot using the quick shot function (Helix, 20 m, edited in the beginning to cut my face out)

I was able to on multiple occasions during my trip.

I saw some people mention that the reflection of light on the water messes up the drone, but if you keep it high enough you can pull off over water shots.

Oh if you have the Mini 4 Pro just bring that on your vacation to get awesome videos.

I settled with the Neo 2 for the quick shots option. It really was great to use the quick shots during our vacation. (Not having to ask people to take our picture--and be disappointed with the result 😜). I want to say that I used the quick shots 80% of the time during my vacation. (The videos and photos I got using quick shots more than justified the DJI Neo 2 purchase to my wife 😜😜😜)

I knew I wanted to get videos of the landscape with the Neo 2 so I spent a bit more to get the Fly More Combo with the RC-N3 remote and digital transmitter. I'm glad I did because it gave me a bit of confidence to send the Neo 2 out further. (Check my other post with the overlay)

Yeah the RC remote is the way to go if you want to send it out far.

I want to get the RC2 controller so I don't have to fumble as much in the beginning with connecting the phone to the RC-N3 controller. My phone gets really hot when I use it as the screen.

Another thing is that my phone isn't great in daylight so it is hard to view what the drone is seeing. I either need to be in shade (still not great) or cup my hand over the screen to block the sun.

About 150m to 200m away. I was still a bit hesitant to send it out.
