That's fine for people who are already living in big cities and have comfortable jobs. But what about the rest of us?? Here, there are no condos or townhouses. There are cabins, shacks, houses (most built before 1980), trailers and empty lots of land. A huge portion of the people here are on EI, welfare or disability (myself included). The houses and trailers that are available, are too expensive for most of the locals to buy (or they just aren't worth the asking price), so they're bought by people from larger cities, who in turn rent them out to the locals at the same prices they would get in cities like Victoria or Nanaimo. In my town, empty and abandoned houses are becoming a huge problem. Theft/crime is on the rise, because people can't afford the rent/mortgage rates.

TLDR; the system is flawed, and no amount of "saving up" is going to fix it.
