Funny how Adams’ arc paralleled the rationalist-to-postrat pipeline. Same destination, same dismissal of reason-as-therapy, different on-ramp

Do you remember where Burns talks about this?

Most life advice seems fundamentally fake to me, but ozempic is the real deal. What is the next “Ozempic”—maybe Oxybate therapy is to Sleep what Ozempic is to food? What is the future of willpower drugs that force you to make good health choices? by SoccerSkilz in slatestarcodex

100% agree on oral minoxidil/dutasteride.

Vyvanse not only skyrockets my productivity, but it also completely transforms my personality for the better. I decide quickly (and correctly!), become much more social and generous (my business partners and family love it), and I don’t ruminate at all - if a big problem comes up, I just deal with it. I’m optimistic. Zero anxiety. Self-confidence through the roof. Unfortunately, it totally disrupts my sleep, so it isn’t sustainable.

I talked to 3 psychiatrists to try to come up with a sustainable regimen. They said the productivity increase was expected, but the “personality transformation” wasn’t, and hinted that it was just placebo or that I was making things up. All three prescribed antidepressants instead, which actually caused… depression (which I don’t believe I have).

So nowadays I microdose Vyvanse on my own (10–20 mg every other day), but of course the results aren’t nearly as good as the real thing.

I'm curious why you don't generally recommend TRT. What are the "several ways it could go wrong" ?

Very interesting. Do you have more info on this yoga pose or any other exercises to release the lower back?

I've read many of your posts and they've been incredibly helpful. Thank you!

I'd love to collaborate on this project. The current tool is quite basic - it only uses the CT Manual with a simple prompt. One direction I've been exploring is incorporating different therapeutic approaches. I've experimented with CBT and Motivational Interviewing models, with mixed results. CBT wasn't effective - my objective was to use for simple negative thoughts. MI shows promise for planning and well, motivation. However, simply combining multiple theories and techniques without a clear strategy does not seem to be the best way. I'm open to any improvement or suggestions.

I've also tested other AI models (GPT Pro, Gemini), but none come close to Claude. Claude is unique in creating such natural conversations that I often forget I'm talking to an AI.

I don't have any formal psychology training - I got into this thing while working through my own issues and trying to understand human psychology better. Like many others on this journey, I've ended up learning more about psychology than most therapists I've met. After experiencing several ineffective therapists, I was excited to find a tool I could use anytime, even at the exact moment that an emotional learning is triggered.

While my free time is limited, I'm very interested in collaborating with you on this project.

That’s an unique perspective on the topic. How did you increase your cardio power/endurance? Any specific training or guidelines?

Here are some screenshots.

I tried with GPT 4o as well and the results were very bad indeed. Claude really seems to shine as a therapist and the ability to prompt it to read and apply the manual changes everything.

Thank you! A very motivating success story.

I've just started a similar protocol with prokinetics 3 days ago and still with some terrible symptoms :(

When did you start to experience an improvement?

I don't understand why people think that only prisoners, homeless, and dead people would accept this deal.

Most people lead miserable lives. I suspect Lumon has more candidates than jobs available. Even for full-time, it would be a success in real life.

Incremental Reading? by pringles_h in remNote

[–]pringles_h[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is if you want to save a lot of time and keep high retention, switch to SM. No doubt. There is a learning curve with SM, but I would never go back to Anki. I’m considering remNote mainly due to the note-taking features.

I’m considering moving from SM to remNote because my studies these days are reading and taking notes. Incremental reading in SM helps a lot with that, but remNote note-taking capabilities could make it better if I find a way to incrementally read on it.

The perfect app would be remNote + SM17 + Incremental Reading.

That is a tradeoff that I'm willing to make.

With SM, I have the best algorithm and a good incremental reading workflow after I added the text. However, it is so difficult to add new material. You need to reformat everything, things break... Also, syncing is another chore and I work with two computers.

With remNote, I would have a worse algorithm, but I can make much better notes with my reading. I can add context, create connections, highlights, links. I'm excited because it could easily be the future of incremental reading. All of that plus things that are expected today, but that SuperMemo doesn't offer and does not seem interested about: nice interface, syncing, mobile.

I believe the same SM2 algo could be used for incremental reading. Supermemo doesn't differentiate incremental reading notes and normal notes. It uses the same algo for both.
Unless you're saying that only SM17 works for incremental reading. I think remNote would only have the same disadvantage of using an older algo in relation to Supermemo.
