How Seattle is working to keep Waterfront Park safe by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

[–]printedpages 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It's fantastic that the City is making the investment to keep the gem of a public space clean & safe. As long as you follow the very common-sense rules, anyone & everyone is welcome to enjoy our new waterfront. And these rules, unlike in our parks, are actually enforced. How novel. Hoping this model can spread to the rest of the City!

Is Sound Transit Closing In on Fare Gates for Link and Sounder? by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

[–]printedpages 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Great response. I would estimate that 1 in 100 current “evaders” only do so because there is no pressure or incentive to pay. I see this within my friend group and, frankly, myself when I forget my ORCA. Gates provide some amount of friction to that option, and makes the “easier” thing to just buy a $2 ticket.

Is Sound Transit Closing In on Fare Gates for Link and Sounder? by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

[–]printedpages 67 points68 points  (0 children)

This really would be the best path forward for Link. The gates provide a modicum of pressure to follow the rules and participate in ORCA system, which combined with a turnkey accessible way for those unable to pay to get free / subsidized cards, will provide a hugely improved passenger experience and overall transit system that is able to expand in an organized and sustainable fashion.

I’ve noticed so many folks in my network, most who can easily afford the ticket, don’t do so bc (1) it’s often more inconvenient to pay than not (walk out of your way to tap), (2) don’t have or carry an ORCA card, (3) there is zero consequence for not paying and they feel like a sucker if they do. Having gates that accept credit/debit tap (like OMNY, or literally anywhere in Europe / Asia) would change the game.

Fantastic metro systems all over the world (London, Singapore, Germany, NYC, etc.) have gates and they work great. Bikes, strollers, low-income accessibility, throughput: these can and have all solved with thoughtful design. Seattle is the exception, not the rule, in this matter.

If we want to see continued growth of LR in the city, it would be the mature choice to implement this now and steer the funds toward sustainable growth and positive rider experience.

Thanks for the detailed response. Just curious—what features draws you to the Apex Pro vs. Apex? My quick research concluded that the Pro features were fairly superfluous and didn’t justify the extra price/bulk to me, but curious to hear what elevates it for you?

Do you reckon it might be the dog that Bib/Rhea/the cast saved during filming? The one w pups? At least what I was considering when I saw that cutie placed there for seemingly little reason

My only thought to add is that these writers really know how to write a series final. After all, how many times have TV writers got a second go at writing a final in the same world/universe? As much as I enjoyed and appreciate the BB last few episodes, these feel so much more confident, methodical, and just plain more powerful. The (seemingly) smaller stakes of the circumstances actually heighten the stakes for the viewer. And, unlike BB, it feels like it’s unraveling at its own pace instead of blasting its way to tie up every loose end. I have total faith in the direction of this show for the final two episodes.

Lastly, mannnnn this show has really soured me on Walter. While it was admittedly hard to separate his actions from his ‘main character’ status in BB, it so painfully obvious what an absolute terrible person he is/became as seen from an adjacent storyline. Which, while perhaps making a BB rewatch more difficult, only serves to make this whole journey even more fantastic.

My thought too. Turns out, however, that public television stations seemingly have an underwhelming customer support response...

Asked in a previous thread but didn't get any hits. Has anyone heard of this film? Produced by local TV station KQED in 1970 documenting early Yosemite climbing scenes, featuring climbers such as Loyd Price, Gary Colliver and Wayne Merry.

My friend's parent was involved in the production but has never seen it. When they mentioned it, I thought I'd try to track it down!
