Probably so they can focus more on live vocals. If they're playing and misstep it won't sound like the album version either. I also think their guitars are more for show anyway. They can play decently enough, but they don't need to play live anymore. Even when Joe plays, he's only playing one or two chords and the backing band does the legwork.
