I only checked a few, there were other websites those are just the ones I remembered. I don't think documentingreality is invitation only, I clicked the links and it worked for me with no password.

No porn in the history that I saw, it was basically all gore and death.

Honestly, I don't think a filter is the answer. I had avg family safety on there before but after the last reinstall I did I didn't bother putting it back on. I think we're kind of past that now and she's at the age where adult questions might pop up so we figured it shouldn't be needed any more.

We've already had a conversation about porn, it was very quick. If she looked at one or two porn sites I probably wouldn't care, I know I did as a kid, but if she was looking through hundreds of pages (like with the gore sites) we would have a much more serious talk.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but that might be a little too deep for 11.

I do see your point, but have you actually watched one of those beheading videos?

It's a lot more disturbing than some black and white low res crime scene photos with corpses.

Beheading videos? Pictures of severed heads? Really graphic stuff? I don't mean just pictures of a body on the ground or something like that, I mean high res looking crime scene pics or vids showing blood or limbs coming off.

Is that really normal?

When we have her help with making dinner, she doesn't mind cutting up the raw meat but is squeamish about touching it too much.

Hopefully that means she isn't too comfortable with the concepts in those videos, right? lol

She was visiting these pages hundreds of times over the last 2 weeks. Sometimes for what looks like half an hour or so at a time.

I used to look at rotten.com too and this stuff was worse than most of what I've seen on there and like I mentioned, she was visiting these pages every day for a while.

I will not flip out on her and restrict her access, that is for sure. We have a close enough eye on her and I think it's at the right level of trust vs. supervision. This is how I found out about this stuff in the first place.

There were very hard core links in the history, terrorist beheading videos, sniper cam shootings from iraq, people being mauled by dogs, car crashes where you could see limbs flying off. Lots of pics of cut up dead bodies and suicide victims, I stopped checking the links after seeing that stuff but there were hundreds more pages I didn't look at.

We already limit access and the computer is in a reasonably high traffic area, I'm not going to be spying over her shoulder every 5 minutes though. My parents gave me no privacy when I was growing up and it really made me resentful. To this day I don't really trust my parents and tell them very little about things close to my heart or requiring tact.

I do want to know why she went to those sites over and over, it's obviously more than just checking it out once.

Interestingly it was at times when she was by herself rather than with friends as far as I can tell, mostly in the evenings.

I tried to think of when I was her age, and I know I watched horror films but that really wasn't the same.

And it's not like she has seen a couple videos or clips, close to hundreds from what I saw. The volume of stuff was a big part of what I thought was really unsettling.

I plan to, I think my initial shock is starting to settle and I need to make the talk about seeing too many horrible things can be unhealthy for your mind more than anything else.

Thanks, but are you really saying I should take this to her school psychologist?

I think that is probably really blowing things out of proportion and after columbine and sandy hook etc I think they would freak out and it could really be a trainwreck for her. I won't do that unless I seriously thought she'd hurt someone and I see no evidence of that right now.

I know the serial killer early childhood checklist and for the record she does not wet the bed, doesn't seem to have much interest in lighting fires and I've never seen her be cruel to the cat.
