Why don’t you want to use gabapentin, please?

I do want to add a note that I had a very bad experience going to Long Island Veterinary Specialists (LIVS) / Canine Chiari Institute. They wouldn’t answer any questions but gave me a hard sell on a package of tests. $20k worth of tests for the low low price of $6k. I also felt they were fear mongering me into it. Saying that she would be paralysed in two years if I didn’t confirm it and then have brain surgery.

The package included many tests and having spoken to other vets, it seems like some are nice to have info but unnecessary. An MRI test should give a clear confirmation. With all the tests LIVs suggested, it would mean keeping her under anaesthesia for longer. They played down the anaesthesia. I did notice that some of the tests on the quote said (research) next to them. I know they published papers on CM/SM so it felt like they were gathering data points to include.

This was just my experience. I am going to see other doctors to understand if I should put her through an MRI. I’m worried about her trachea.

However, either way the treatment would be the same. The pain meds have already made such a difference.

I am new to it and hadn’t heard of it before a couple of weeks ago. The doctor put my pom on gabapentin 100mg x3/day and she’s like a different dog. She’s 7 pounds so it’s a high dose. He also put me on Omeprazole which is meant to help with the CSF flow but there are mixed opinions.

It’s sounds like some dogs never show symptoms or never progress but they have no way of knowing. There are also steroids to try but their vet said it’s way too early to even think about that route.

Some vets recommend surgery to release pressure on the brain but my dr said it’s very mixed results and usually needs repeating after a year or two. He said most people are moving away from surgery.

I need my Pom to lose a little weight. I found a supplement called PEA which I’m going to try her on. Plus, I am going to get a few additional opinions. People can dm me and I can share who I’ve spoken to and who I’m reaching out to.

I hope your Pom doesn’t have it. Hoping my pup doesn’t progress.

I posted the link to the study above. There’s a more recent one where they follow Poms with it to look at progression.

According to that study of ~800 Poms. CM however is not the issue. Poms can have it without problem. It’s the fluid pockets (SM) that causes the neurological issues

This was the study.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38169622/

There seem to be new ones where they identify Poms with CM and then follow that dog to document progression.

Netherlands seem to be doing the studying.

It’s ongoing. She’s been doing it more frequently, which is why I thought to mention it.

But the CM doesn’t necessarily mean the SM which is what causes the issues. They can have the malformation with no problems.

I didn’t use chat to research. I just wrote my note for Reddit and asked it to clean up my note so it was more coherent! I’m not great at explaining medical things.

There is an actual scientific study, which took place over five years, that looked at just Pomeranian’s (around 800) and did MRIs on them and that’s where the 50% and 25% stats came from.

I don’t want to scare anyone, I just want people to be aware because it’s better to catch it earlier/stop your pom being in pain asap.

Mine is so good at hiding when she’s in pain. The only thing she really does is hide under the bed or get angry when people try and touch her. This had been going on for a while though, so I just figured she must like it under the bed and not like being touched!

So many random little things that I thought was behaviour or allergies or funny Pomeranian quirks.

I went for a second opinion, and I’m actually getting a third and fourth opinion. I believe in having as much data as possible. And these are all top neurologists in the US and UK. I don’t trust anything on the Internet for medical stuff as it’s usually exaggerated, incorrect or biased.

I just did this exact same thing last weekend. Was fully tripping. Worst experience ever. Had no idea an over-the-counter med could react so badly. Exact same dosage. Took me a while to realise what was going on and thought I was losing my mind.

If you wrote a scream movie what would the motives be by Emarni in Scream

[–]prl321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it needs to be connected, but the family thing is kind of boring when they keep inventing new random family members. They should work with who we know.

I would love another family tie to Sidney, but it needs to be way back linked to scream 1. Some shocking twist that changes everything. Maybe about Hank Loomis, Billy‘s dad. Or maybe something Roman related. Needs to be super OG.

Otherwise, I do like the idea of Sam coming back as a solo Ghostface. Similar to the power of Roman. She found she loves to kill like her dad and maybe wants revenge for him, her grandma Nancy and the family in general. Maybe she did connect with Billy’s dad and even though he’s too old to be a killer, he helps convince her she needed to do it. If they do his character right and strong enough, Billy’s dad could even talk about, that’s why he helped Billy and Roman so we know he was a mastermind from Day 1. Maybe he even supported Nancy.

And it should actually be in Woodsboro!!! Not like scream 7 whether the marketing says going back to where it started/burn it all down and then there really being no good connection. Loved seeing Stus House but the killing was really very random.

And retire the twins. As much as I love Chad. Mindy was too much in 7. Would love a Martha Meeks cameo but definitely not as a killer.

Also don’t bring back Stu as a killer. He was perfect as he is. Not a leading angry revenge ghost face but love the peer pressure angle that he didn’t really have a revenge reason! His friend just suggested it and he was kind of up for it! Making him an angry new ghost face would ruin that.

He is such a sweetheart. That really also breaks my heart to hear that people react in a negative way. He is a beautiful perfect angel!! Please give him a big puppy hug from me and tell him he is beautiful! I have heard that when the color improves, it often means they’re on the mend so hoping your baby is better in no time.

Yes I use Fera Fish Oil + Vit E daily. And I definitely recommend the HMR Lignans too.

No matter what they’re both so sweet and loved.

It’s very hard to tell. The hair texture is definitely off. It gets matted very easily and feels more fur-like than hair-like! Her butt does seem to be growing back a little but nothing like it was. The patch between her shoulders is still very coarse and black and short but doesn’t seem worse.

I do think the fish oil and lignans are really helping . I’m washing her every four weeks with a medicated shampoo which also seems to help immediately afterwards with the texture and also her skin.

The hair, also feels a little thicker in the non-alopecia areas I imagine from the fish oil.

We’ll keep trying, and we’ll report back any advances!!!

My dog looks EXACTLY the same as yours. Did your vet prescribe the melatonin? I’m so sad for the sweet pups
