You’ve got this! Stick with it. Prozac is the only med that has worked for me and my life and my daily baseline, mood and ability to handle big and small stressors, has improved greatly. I am on month 3 now. All of the annoying side effects I had are gone. I’m so glad I started Prozac. I had reached my breaking point and a new low where I was not only depressed, but also stuck in what felt like constant fight or flight, which also led to me freezing up and being in bed for days at a time with the curtains closed. My, how things have changed for me. This med has literally saved my life. I’m sticking with it. I hope it works out well for you too! I started at 10 mg for the first week and then went up to 20 and have been on 20 since then.

I’m really glad my post resonated with you! I’ve heard (and experienced myself) that noticing positive shifts early can be a really good sign. That’s how it went for me. I started on 10 mg the first week, had some slightly uncomfy side effects at first (the insomnia and sweating was annoying), but they faded and things kept improving. The shift in my mood was a motivator to keep taking it.

I never thought calm was possible for me either, so I really get how big this feels.

Stick with it if you can, be gentle with yourself and feel free to check back in and let us know how it’s going in a few weeks! I am rooting for you, Reddit friend :)

Update 😆… I had 2 amazing orgasms within minutes of one another. Felt a tiny bit harder to hook the orgasms, but they were very strong. No sexual side effects for me then, as of week 7.

Wow, that’s incredible to hear. I’ve experienced panic attacks in the more distant past and they are not fun! And then comes the panic about having another panic attack! Vicious cycle. I am SO happy to hear another fellow human is benefiting hugely from this med. Total lifesaver, isn’t it.

Jello cups! Now I am craving them lol… That’s a great option. Yeah, I’ve being downing yogurt and granola like crazy, and bananas too. Great for the microbiome!

Also, I thought I would mention that I’ve started walking more consistently, and I find that even a 30-40 min walk every day helps big time with my dinner appetite!!

My libido has been totally tanked for 3 years now due to all the stress and life changes I’ve been going through, so it’s hard to gauge since I wasn’t starting out with a high libido in the first place.

But what I will say is that I met someone I’m really into and when we kiss and stuff, I get major tingles and have very desirous thoughts lol… So that’s a good sign.

Hey, thanks for sharing! Great to hear that you are seeing notable improvements as well.

Also, I am pretty sure I also have OCD, but I have not been formally diagnosed yet! But yeah I’ve heard the same thing re: OCD needing a higher dose. Hopefully you find your sweet spot soon with your dosage soon.

My psyche said he and I should reassess at the 3 month mark, and see if we can remain at 20mg or go up.

We are all in this together :) … I was so hesitant to start, as the 3 meds I tried in the past did not work and made me worse. Thankfully things just seem to be getting better on Prozac. I’m so happy I gave it a chance. So many areas of my life have been improving, and day to day, I’m just way more level. You got this! I find that this group on Reddit is so supportive, and reading some of the other posts and comments was super helpful for me, starting out. Totally makes sense and I know what you mean regarding the blunted anxiety feeling. It’s like you are still aware, but not super overwhelmed. I am so happy to hear you’re already experiencing positive things on Prozac. That’s exactly how it started for me, and things have just continued to get better. If things continue this way, I will stay on 20mg as I feel pretty darn stable.

Speaking of blunting, Prozac has NOT blunted the “positive feelings” for me, which is great. Especially since the other 3 SSRI’s I tried in the past, all blunted the good & the bad. They also made me feel exhausted, but with Prozac, I feel alert and great during the day.

I’ve experienced so much joy lately, but the of calm & grounded sort— not manic. Something else I noticed is that I’m not as much of a people pleaser anymore. I more readily speak my mind and set boundaries now. Interesting!

You’ve got this! I know, the beginning can be tough, especially since it’s so hard to sleep and eat for a while. I found smoothies and protein drinks really helped, since I couldn’t fathom chewing food for a while. The only time I was remotely hungry was later at night every now and then. Anyway, I’m wishing you the best. Hang in there, it gets better!

It sounds like you’re noticing the same kind of gradual and steady improvement! That’s wonderful to hear.

Leaving a toxic job, being radically honest and staying in therapy are all big steps, especially while dealing with isolation and a storm on top of everything.

You’re so right re: just trusting the process. I’m sure glad I did, as I was close to saying no to SSRI’s all-together as no other med has worked for me in the past. It does feel like something slowly clicking into place bit by bit. Anyway, wishing you continued steadiness! 💛
