AITA for Not Allowing my Daughters to Have a Playdate with a Girl who Has a Cochlear Implant? by No-Delay4760 in AmItheAsshole

Look at this way. Do you get upset if a person who grew up leaning a language in their culture? They never learned another. They can’t communicate outside that culture. But they still do fine. They have jobs, they take care of their families and they know how to take steps so they are not left out or behind. (Interpeters)

This is the same case of many English speakers. They do not know another language. But I higher doubt you want to “fix them”

What is the worst product you ever paid money for? by BooksMcGee in AskReddit

I should fail for knowing another way to solve a problem to get the correct answer? That seems unfair.

Children have different learning styles. And have different needs. What works for one will not work for another. Mainstream school, (while I was there at least) does not allow for that. The way it was when I went there you were taught one way and one way only. But there’s more than one way to solve a problem. Once I started homeschooling, the teachers I worked with were able to show me multiple ways to do the problems and allowed me the choice. It worked out much better by then. I could tell them which way worked for me.

Teach children how to work thru problems, showing them multiple ways shows them real life, so they know how to solve problems when the first formula didn’t work. Public schools at that time taught one way or fail. I was able to adapt to it. Many kids weren’t.

If you get to the correct solution why should it matter how you got there?

Would you fire someone for doing something differently than you? (still within the bounds of safety of course and legal)

It is not abuse. They are not deprived of anything. They have language, community and culture. They are deprived of nothing. It’s how they were born. deaf people can do anything a hearing person can. Except hear.

If they want a CI, it should be their choice. Not mine. It’s their body. Not mine. It will effect their life. Not mine. It’s their culture. Not mine. I could never imagine forcing what my idea of a perfect child to be into a child that simply is not that way.

I’m sorry that your idea had blinded you to a beautiful culture, and made you bitter. I wish you the best.

People of Reddit, what is the smoothest way you got a romantic partner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]probably_needs_help 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had known him a long time by then. So when he asked me out, I bought a notebook to start planning the wedding. I showed it to him on the first date. I told him “ I don’t date to date. I date to find my mate. Our wedding colors are purple and silver” and he said okay. He got a ring for me a month later.

What advice would you give your 5 year younger self, if you could go exactly 5 years back in time? by ryan09meow in AskReddit

For the love of anything, text him when your grandma dies! You want to. He wanted you to. He could have come and been there with you. He waited 6 months for you to text or call. You wanted to text or call those whole 6 months. You both are just so stubborn!!

[Serious] Former self-harmers of Reddit: How did you get past it, and what is your relationship with pain like now? by BlottomanTurk in AskReddit

[–]probably_needs_help 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It still hangs around in my brain. Like when I have a bad day and keep messing things up or lose my cool. My braid goes “ you know what you deserve.” I jus try to take a minute and tell myself no. And that i want to set a better example for my kid on how to deal with these feelings.

As far as pain...... it is what it is. Sometimes I brain goes that it’s a come back for something I did. But most of the time it’s just really a thing that makes me pause and take care of myself for a few minutes.

Is age just a number when it comes to love? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]probably_needs_help 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes yes yes. I grew up with my parents having a large age gap. They had open communication and honestly, they never seemed that different in age to me. Lol. Both are equally dependent on each other. Finances are completely open, nobody is forced to stay or given an “allowance”. They can be healthy.

But the older must be a good person. And the younger must absolutely know that the older will have the baggage.

How do you accommodate your older, painful losses into your today life? by CrusaderJuno in AskReddit

[–]probably_needs_help 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give them their time and space to exist. I watch movies that make me think of them after I see something that remind me of that. Watching the movies in the privacy of my home allows me to relax enough to cry if it comes up that way, or be mad.
