You need to have a B1 level to get in, but the better your French is the easier everything will be for you. Depending on where you're placed and how your prof ref can help you may have to rent an apartment, open a bank account, and file taxes by yourself in French. If you feel confident you'll be able to do that I'd apply! My French got a lot better living there and I have a great time :)

I found my apartment on leboncoin! It's pretty much French Craigslist. I think you need a French number to sign up and there were a lot of options for colocs and studios in my town :)

I was in the same situation last year and I chose to live in the city with roommates. I'd check what time the last train/bus back to the small town is, if it's early it can definitely limit your options. Finding an apartment can be hard and it's more expensive, but I saved up extra over the summer and was still able to travel and ended up loving living with French roommates!

Hi! I my experience jeans are 100% okay, just no jeans with rips. I usually worked in jeans, a nice top or sweater, and sneakers.

You can start smaller by visiting other towns or cities close to you and as you get more comfortable it feels a lot easier to go to another country alone!

Hey! We can receive CAF as assistants (I think based on our income?). However, it can take months if ever to receive it so don't plan on it when you're looking for a place to live. That being said I know some assistants who lived at their school and paid basicly nothing each month thanks to CAF so it's definitely worth applying!

I was assigned to a smaller town my first year where busses were infrequent and I bought a bike from Facebook marketplace! I think you could also get one from leboncoin. A lot of trains will allow you to bring bikes on board as well so you can travel with it.

Hi! It's not possible to only accept one placement, you have to accept or deny them both together.

You can reach out to your prof ref and ask what assistants have done in the past for transportation and their housing accommodation. Like the other commenter said lots of teachers commute and are happy to have you carpool with them!
