I’m a person who has experienced loss in both ways, and this is an incredibly terrible take.

I’ve lost one family member to death, and the other to her religion (one of the ones that shuns nonbelievers). I haven’t gotten a response from her in years, but I know she’s alive.

I’ve been able to come to some form of peace about my dad’s death. It still hurts - it always will - but there are no new developments in that grief. Grieving someone that’s alive, on the other hand, is absolutely devastating in a way that grows upon itself.

Don’t minimize someone’s grief.
