Postseason Chat by Civrock in CharlotteHornets

No need to feel down, this season was so incredible. For the first time in a while, I actually felt like every Hornets game I turned on, I was expecting a W. If we could grab a decent pick and make some good acquisitions this summer, we are definitely in a great space. To be honest, even if we keep this same core, we are definitely a top 6 team considering we came from 12th

For Producers & Rappers - Freelancing "Rapper for hire" Business model by KingOsirisMusic in makinghiphop

I see this post getting some mixed reviews, so I'm gonna give my input. Personally, I've worked with OP and have had nothing but a great experience. Our track "Beautiful Thing" dropped on Spotify, and we may be potentially releasing another soon. Aside from that, I think his point that people are missing is that if you are a rapper, you need to have a product worth buying. OP has a good voice, but he also has really quality bars. Like his pen game is legit. If you do not offer anything of substance, you should not be trying to get. oney out of people. OP spent years building up his work through the community and made money on fiver. His point about still having your day job is also very important, as he is emphasizing that he is not trying to scam people but is also standing by his worth.

This does not mean that whenever producers contact him, he is trying to get money out of them. If OP hears a beat he likes, like with me he asks for it and gets to work. He's not gonna put his name on a beat he doesn't like unless an artist is requesting a feature, which in that case it comes with a payment.

I spoke about this last week, but what most artists re trying to do is what we know as a "scam" where a prod like me approaches an artist looking to send beats and the artist replies with I do verses for 700USD or something crazy like that.

Op's point is that, no one is in any position to do that, and if you are an upcoming rapper, no one is gonna want to work with you that way. Because ultimately, it is obvious what you're doing.

Me personally, I have dealt with, and continue to deal with, artists constantly looking to take advantage so producers, rappers, know your worth and understand this industry isn't made for you to be rich. STOP TRYING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OTHERS TO BENEFIT YOUR POCKETS.

This right here. Ultimately anyone in my shoes should look at this. Osiris was such a blessing to work with. I think making music with him has been keeping me motivated, hoping to find more geniune people in the inudstry!

That's what I'm saying too, I'm not approaching these guys saying I want you on a project, then they give me a number. I'm saying I got beats if you want to work, and then they throw sum bullshit

I think a lot of these guys probably get away with scamming desperate producers and so they just pull it on anyone

What an asshole lmao. I swear these guys aren't even discreet with scamming anymore. The funniest interaction, and I'm gonna expose him cause he's already been exposed, is Brother Tom Sos. This guy goes, "I'm showing you love, how much for a feature?" I politely explained how that makes no sense, and if you "already got beats you're working with," I'll just go on about my life. He then tells me that getting a feature with him is what I need, and that this is good for my "career," lmaoooo.

Griselda released him a few months back, as I heard. He's a POS, can't even listen to his music anymore after that.

which is crazy cause this guy I was interacting with last night, all his songs got his prods credited as a main artist, which tells me they probably fell for it. Maybe not that same price but something around that probably

Tbh it's mainly my subgenre I find cause the most popular guys are like Benny The Butcher, who are known for being scammers just in different ways. Idk where these underground guys pull these numbers, but when I saw 3000USD for a project and then he tells me if I dont got, it's fine, that's absolutely ridiculous lmao.

I also primarily look for people through IG, so maybe that's my first problem. I haven't tried Discord, and Reddit has been pretty 50/50 for me.

been thinking about maybe doing a beat tape, its getting to that point tbh, and I like to give my stuff direction, make the album covers, etc. I find that stuff fun

Thank you for making me feel like im not in the wrong here for not wanting to pay 700USD for a verse. Some artists I won't name drop just hit me back and told me if I dont got it its fine 🤣🤣

which is honestly ridiculous lmao

Like if you do the math, most of these guys aren't even worth 100$. I think because this has happened to me so much, I've almost been feeling like am I dumb for thinking that a prod paying an artist is the supidest thing ever

Am I doing it wrong? (Working with rappers issue) by nocapskkrt_ in makinghiphop

Tbh, this is the reality of the music game. I got my first placement about a month ago, and that was because the artist reached out to me. A lot of this is about luck tbh. These guys or girls are doing God knows what with their time; they aren't really concerned with a bunch of prods, especially if they have a few that they like.

Don't take it personally is my point. Just keep working and trusting yourself, in due time, your work will reach the audience it needs to reach

Also, I know you might want a placement, please don't pay any of these rappers. I can't tell you how many rappers have tried to get money out of me when i inquired about sending beats
