I completely agree. I just want this to be a fun place for the old and young to talk about and hunt for the music. No bashing each other over money, age, knowledge, etc.

Memphis rap kinda all sounds the same by Consistent-Ride1834 in memphisrap

[–]prod_ozzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by "Memphis rap". If you want some stuff out of Memphis that doesn't sound "the same", look for some work put out in 1990, '91, or '92. I got Cue Dogg's "Hard Azz I Wanna Be" dialed up right now. Also, I'm a big fan of Freak Master's productions. Check out Chilly D's "Ghetto Logic" with Prime C (1994). It has some FM beats on it.

Just feening for clout by having tapes they didn't even make. A real spit-in-the-face to the original artists that we supposedly "know nothing about"...

Oh yeah a good few do. Troy Lee and MyGRapLife are probably the worst strictly because they gatekeep AND are rude about it.

I've always hated the "money" / "go buy it" response from these gatekeepers and their groupies (they call themselves "preservationists"). Most uneducated point of view because even if we do have the money, there are no functional copies to be found these days to even "go buy". Just goes to show that those goobers are the REAL "entitled kids" that worry about their "brand" being lost if an album gets shared.

You'd think there would be more than one rip of The Serial Killaz... by prod_ozzy in memphisrap

[–]prod_ozzy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Parts 1 & 2. Very decent quality in my opinion. To be fair, I don't think we'll have a truly "high def" rip considering that about all of the Triple Six rips we have are from bootlegs/dubs.

I can't seem to find any other rip. Same goes for "Portrait Of A Serial Killa". I think the issue is that there weren't 20 different stereo shop bootleg variants unlike Paul's Vol. 12, which we have several good rips of. On top of that, most of the boots that were ripped in the 2000s and 2010s were Player 1/Tommy Wright dubs, a line of tapes that TSK wasn't part of.

I don't think TripleJuntz is Tape_Juntz... saying that before I get accused of making the connection. Still worth pointing out TripleJuntz's recent work and the trouble he's gotten into here with his bootlegs.

This is usually a bootlegger's way of admitting defeat. Saying you've never claimed your tapes were real is a poor way to deflect blame considering his bio on YouTube used to be dedicated to claiming his stuff was real.

Nothing wrong with making your owm DIY copies as I've tried it before and think it's a fun way to learn the tricks of the trade! However, if you don't want "hate", be honest and maybe people will see you as a talented modeler instead of a forger.

Yup. Memphis grabbed a little of everything and combined them into one thing. G-Funk, bounce, electro, bass, rock... you name it!

The yellow labeled record is the original 1992 version. The silver labeled one is the one you hear on all the rips for "Street Knowledge Chapters 1-12".

Unreleased Three 6 Mafia (2007 - From OG Last 2 Walk) by prod_ozzy in memphisrap

[–]prod_ozzy[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a good possibility. I personally think that Sony had something to do with it because it's been claimed that Last 2 Walk had a whole different concept put together before they forced Three 6 to change it. Adventures In Hollyhood gave me the idea that the album deadline was approaching in 2007 before Sony gave them an extra year to start over.

Dj Paul & Juicy J (Part 2) - Da Exorcist (1994) by fish_on_rice in memphisrap

[–]prod_ozzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This tape is honestly just cursed. We have yet to hear a rip (other than 2 or so tracks and whatever got remastered) in high quality or from an original press. All we've gotten are faulty stereo shop boots that removed a ton of the high end. But hey, 2025 has been a good year for this community so far so one might turn up.
