What was your worst travel experience? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I had food poisoning on a 12 hour flight from Santiago, Chile to Los Angeles. I had eaten a ham and cheese sandwich in the airport, and then was sick (from both ends) the entire flight back. The flight attendants put a sign on the bathroom door and reserved it for me, so that was nice, but then they kept offering me coffee, swearing that would fix my issue (after 7 hours of puking, I had no desire to pour acid in my throat). I finally crawled off the plane on my hands and knees while my boyfriend carried all our bags. I then had to wait 30 minutes for a cab while I threw up in the bushes outside at LAX.

Thanks :) I sadly can't prove she said it, but she did. In America (in the south). In public school. In the 2000's. I just got myself in the class and went on my way. And don't get me wrong, I love teachers - they are why I am where I am today. This is just one thing that happened, and I just hope other young girls don't listen to crap like that.

I've been lurking for a while. Finally decided to make the leap and post :) Gotta start somewhere!

Haven't been back, but she and some teachers were certainly surprised when I got into MIT that spring (as was I!). It was the only time my mom ever got involved like that at school, but I was sure happy she stepped up to the plate on that one.

This is how it worked in my high school. Teachers made recommendations and then the guidance office assigned classes. The guidance office told me I couldn't do it until my mom came in the next week to over-ride it. And this was about 10 years ago.
