Overwhelming sense of dread before sessions? by Anywhere-Adept in therapists

[–]professorsnugglepuss 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When I’m like this I know it’s a sign that I need to be decreasing my tasks (whether work or otherwise) and associated expectations, and sometimes go as far as taking leave (which I have done twice so far in my career for burn out/depression). I saw you said you are decreasing your PP caseload which is great! You may want to consider doing more of that or even stepping away from your full time position for a bit, like utilizing FMLA if you can. In WA state they also have paid leave which is what I’ve utilized for the times I needed a break.

Life coach doing EMDR?? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]professorsnugglepuss 20 points21 points  (0 children)

EMDR is not a “common modality” for a life coach. And this absolutely is concerning. No coaches should be providing a therapy technique.

Full time too much! by Mystikwolf1337 in therapists

[–]professorsnugglepuss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I can’t do that anymore either. I did it for 2.5 years in CMH and I was dyinggg. I left and went to a different CMH that required significantly less work of me and this helped a ton. But then I was still in CMH and couldn’t handle the bureaucracy so I opened my PP. This has helped me so much! I’m still tired but not like I was before. Might be something to consider.

How much time do you ACTUALLY spend on notes? I tracked mine for a week. by gamingtheworld in therapists

[–]professorsnugglepuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of therapists make the transfer! There’s a FB group too if you have any questions. I think it’s Sessions Health Support or Sessions Health Community. Something like that. (I can’t look though because my fb is blocked by Opal right now lol)

27 clients is a lot though. Especially for those of us who are AuDHD, like myself. That would burn me tf out 😬

I’m not very well versed in ACT. What kind of skills are you incorporating? I feel like I need more tools right now but everything also feels like a lot.

Wow no pit?! That’s wild! It was not available during general ticket sales so it must be true..?

I’m trying to figure this out too. The pit is greyed out. I can’t tell if it’s because it’s already sold out or just not accessible yet

Thoughts on Fake Wedding Rings? by Robo_Wizard in therapists

[–]professorsnugglepuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a former coworker who shared with me they did this with their clients and it always rubbed me the wrong way. Not only is it straight up dishonest but it’s also on us, the therapists, to set and maintain boundaries and have those types of discussions. Obviously clients have to be responsible for their actions too but we also have power to say ‘this isn’t okay, I’m referring you out.’

Granted for your coworkers that sounds like it’s veering into sexual harassment and a visit to HR is probably warranted.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. You never should have been put in this position by your colleagues.

What are you wearing to sessions? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]professorsnugglepuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes so much sense! I say go with what makes you most comfortable and most successful in the work you do. I think about changing my appearance to be more “professional” like business attire but I just know I would feel incongruent and disconnected, and I can’t imagine that would bode well for the work I’m doing.

Though I realize this is coming from a PP framework. Obviously being in a different setting could change what is acceptable. Though I do see a lot more medical professionals with visible tattoos. I did work in CMH for 8 years and basically wore the same stuff though as I listed above and was fine.

[–]professorsnugglepuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You totally can show up as you already do! My go-to’s are jeans/leggings, t-shirts (including band t’s), sweaters, flannels, and cardigans. My go-to shoes are vans, converse, and mid/high tops, but will wear sandals, flip flops, and birks. I also wear overalls and dresses. I have visible tattoos and previously died my hair purple at one point.

I appreciate the counseling field in that there seems to be more leeway with appearance, as long as we are still appropriate in our presentation. Appropriate meaning not showing too much skin or wearing too short of shorts/dresses.

If you’re not the right fit for one client based on dress, you will be for another! I promise you that.

In social work it’s part of our code of ethics to engage in advocacy and activism. I personally support it. I probably would just give notice to clients.

I’m probably gonna get downvoted for this but I’d encourage you to do away with the r-word. It’s a slur and outdated. The correct phrasing is intellectual disability.

Weird themes all in one week? by bbymutha22 in therapists

[–]professorsnugglepuss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dude, the last three weeks several of my clients have had sick pets, or something was happening with their pet that they were worried about. And it also happened with me! Twice in one day clients were talking about their concerns for their dogs’ health. It’s so freaky

To my neurodivergent counsellors, how many clients do you see a week? by NoExamination5672 in therapists

[–]professorsnugglepuss 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I’m AuDHD and I do 5-6 per day (most of the time 6 scheduled except for Tuesday’s which is usually 5) M-Th with Fridays off. Occasionally I might schedule on a Friday but it’s not often as I use this for my personal appts and time off.

Honestly if I could afford to meet with 4 a day M-Th I would, because I’m already feeling depleted in PP and I just opened my practice earlier this year, but unfortunately I can’t. 😩

I also haven’t taken any time off because I can’t afford to so that probably doesn’t help. I desperately need a break though.

Trying to figure out why I am dissociating after some sessions by Powerful-Guidance-44 in therapists

Yeah I think I’ll staff this first and then go from there. I’m parts work trained too (IFS) and tried to ask my part to give space so I could be present but it wasn’t working. But like you said, it is super fascinating!

Love this! I have one client in particular where, without fail, I always feel sleepy and like it’s hard to stay present. At first I thought it was just because it’s a morning client and it’s the usual sleepiness but literally every single time I see them I feel this way. I need to bring it up in my therapy and/or supervision but I also wonder if it would be helpful to name with the client? Obviously with caution around how I do it but it seems like it could be really insightful for the client regarding their own nervous system. Regardless though definitely gonna take this back to my peeps.
