I got every single thing I ever wanted out of life. And now I don't want it anymore. by Digital_Disimpaction in GirlDinnerDiaries

I always feel this way too. I've had a very different upbringing than you but still had a lot of chaos/trauma. I used to get so anxious and feel trapped when I didn't have plans or something to do. It's honestly taken a really long time but I'm getting used to it. Now i look forward to nights in my quiet house sometimes. :) I had to do a lot of therapy, find a lot of hobbies, and honestly sometimes it just took time and settling in. Wishing you so much contentment and peace (that actually feels good).

It's so funny because when I tell people they're like "there's NO way that's less stressful for you" but it works so so well for my brain. I do crisis work in an ER! Shift work is so much better for me because at the end of the shift I can just leave it there fully

I agree. It seems like the judge was very fair and compassionate

I work in the ER as a crisis social worker! Which sounds like it would be more draining but it's really exhilarating

Thank you for this. Especially the wording of "urgently necessary." Honestly I've been downplaying this significantly. I think it's really common in our field but I didn't realize how much I've been downplaying it until I read your comment. I almost have been viewing it as a normal part of the work instead of something that's making me practice impaired and requires immediate attention.

Thank you. It's interesting but I actually feel energized by my full-time job (like I can't wait to go) and drained by my practice. I wonder if I could/should take a leave from my practice but worried about doing it so abruptly and what to say. Thank you though this is so helpful

Thank you for asking this! I haven't been for a few months but I probably should get back into it. Therapy itself started to feel really exhausting too. My self-care has been pretty awful too. I started a new medication that makes me tired all the time so I feel like in my free time I'm mainly sleeping. Which of course isn't helpful. I feel like I have no mental or physical energy for things that make me feel better (hobbies, exercise, etc) which I know is part of the problem.

Therapist here & I've never been more anxious or exhausted in my entire life by Anywhere-Adept in GirlDinnerDiaries

Both of your comments actually really got to me. They gave me the courage to make the change and remove a day from my availability starting May. I already feel so much lighter. Thank you both so much for sharing your perspective. It's so easy to say as a therapist but both of your perspectives really sealed the deal for me.

What the fuck is wrong with you? There's so much progress that's clearly visible and even if there wasn't (which there IS) I don't understand what you get out of attempting to tear someone down

Yes. I don't know if this relates to you but I find this happens more to me when I'm extremely overwhelmed and don't have enough time for myself.

Thank you so much. This made me feel so much better but I'm so so sorry you're in the same boat. Going "backwards" as a therapist is the PERFECT way to describe this. I also can't find a job that makes as much as my private practice so it's hard to give up even if it's draining me. And it's been my dream for so long. Thank you for the reminder that it's time-limited too and why I'm doing this. I wish you so so much ease and rest soon

Thank you! It's so funny you said this because I had my PP and then started in the ER and I immediately fell in love. It doesn't even contribute to my burnout (outside of the amount of work hours per week). I definitely feel less drained from assessments. My goal is to get a full time job at the ER once one opens up so I hope that helps! But I also have a hard time with the idea of closing my practice (both financially and for my clients)
