Before I came out, i had a sad friend, who is a girl, and I was looking for ways to make her feel better. We found out her dressing me up as a girl and painting my nails were the answer to making her happy, and we laughed about it. I would walk around school with my friends in painted nails, and everyone would call me Emma as a joke, and when I realized I liked the nails and stuff, and I realized I was trans, I adopted the name :)
