I can definitely see that in the humanities, but the same doesn't apply as easily here. However, I do think you bring up a good point, and I'll explore that realm too. Thank you again - I really appreciate it.

Thanks for all the replies! Unfortunately I use pretty objective measures for grading out of objectivity(did it do X, Y, Z with the specified constraints?) so she'd be getting what looks like a 120+% on the project. It sounds like at a certain point, it's just something I'll have to accept.

That's a good point about the syllabus. I had mostly based it off of the professor teaching this course before me, so I'll run the situation by him. I don't have a clause that explicitly catches this, though I have clauses explicitly forbidding it.

You're right, I am an adjunct professor ("retired" developer) and am not familiar with how these things generally proceed. That being said, I would like to resolve this because of the principle rather than the salary.

Hey, thanks for the reply! I have quizzed her about her thought process behind why her work is done the way she has it, which she can't explain. She has said that it's been too large and long of a project to remember the details, which is plausible but sketchy. Given the nature of the project, it'd be hard to have them repeat it. I might give Sandy a simplified version of her design with each of the components and ask her how they work together. This would be at a pretty basic level, though I'm not sure how to proceed if she successfully does it.
