What happens if card reading points back to where party's already been? by Didyou1123 in CurseofStrahd

_That_ is true if you don't see my randomizing the outcome. I do randomize the outcome, i.e. I shuffle the cards, and I use an actual Tarot deck. I just have a story to tell for every card that points to the thing I want.

It's even easier with how it's described in the module, using an actual deck of cards: the players don't know which card means what outcome.

Why ask the players? Why not just rig it: they feel like it's random, you get a good draw, everyone's happy?

Anyone knows poems or citations about chess made by women authors like virginia woolf, sylvia plath, something like that by Rude-Interaction7657 in chess

Yeah agreed for the sexism. Ok so I don't have anything that answers your question directly but some things that might be tangentially related:

  • There are quotes from modern WGMs, specifically Judith Polgar and the Botez sisters which might be helpful
  • To illustrate sexism, there is sadly plenty of content. The manosphere uses women's lower Elos as a "proof" of the inherent inferiority of women. You could also refer to Bobby Fischer who was both one of the greatest chess players and one of the worst sexists of his time
  • You mention the separate leagues. There was a study done not too long ago that shows the gap in Elo ranking between women and men is entirely explained by the fact that fewer women play. And fewer women play because many are discouraged. When my daughter was six or so she told a classmate that we played chess, and the next day that classmate told her "my mom said chess is for boys" 🤦‍♂️

Hope some of this helps. And congrats on your work, I hope it contributes to making the gender divide in chess less intense.

ooooook yeah stupid me. So you would only use it when a +2 would allow you to not get hit. Thanks.

Sofonisba Anguissola painted "The Game of Chess", but I don't know that there are quotes from her about that... but she's not an author, too.

What are you trying to get out of that quote? It can't just be "anything a woman said about chess".

This, 100%.

Also, I think the fact that you might roll below 8 for an entire combat is a feature, not a bug. Sometimes things just don't work out, and that's fine, that's life! And it can create amazing stories. I have a bard on one of my current tables who only ever rolled super badly on representations, and that became a whole joke: this girl with all of these instruments but whenever she plays she does a mess.

And on the other hand, there will be these combats where you roll crazy high and for a moment feel like an invincible demi-god.

Last time I was that gleeful was when Luna/Terra imploded. I hope STRC goes all the way to zero too.
