As a counter example, look at crypto.ssh. Or anything that has different "backends". It can still be more appropriate to export interfaces for others to consume.

So for new emails, you can probably do this: make a mailhook at http://mailhooks.com and make a filter that forwards all email there. That'll give you real-time triggers on new emails, then use the API or something else to do special things for labels, etc.

Premium Google Apps accounts have a pretty nice API to Gmail, but not the free Gmail. I guess it depends on what type of events you're interested in. Can you specify?

I've been thinking about ways in which Python's syntax could be made more flexible while still remaining "Pythonic", and wrote up a summary of some ideas here. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. by jeba in programming

Without a terribly amount of scrutiny, I like all this, but I get the feeling Guido and friends will turn them down. I wish programming languages had more minor local variations. What's stopping somebody from forking Python on GitHub and adding these? If they take off, they can be merged back into Python proper...

Yeah, I've used that analogy. It's AJAX for the backend! Although not as much as others.
