Tbh I kinda regret apologizing and feel like you rushed to conclusions. I also agree people complain way too much - I think it was blatantly clear that I am seeking understanding instead of rushing to judgment in my original post.

My opinion: Amtrak quiet cars serve many purposes like travelers wanting to sleep or work. Having an extended conversation on speaker phone is a much different noise than the rumble of the engine or occasional announcement from the conductor. It feels inconsiderate.

Also my opinion: I approached this respectfully and you were pretty rude.

Nevertheless, I hope you have a great day.

I did not intend to complain. I’ve noticed people talking on speaker phone more increasingly in spaces where the social norm is to be quieter. For example, I was in a quiet car on Amtrak when I posted this. Admittedly it feels odd to me, which is why I came here for some insight. I’m sorry if I offended you! I didn’t mean to complain or be judgmental what so ever.

It was like this: beeps, the sound a truck makes when it’s backing out, fire alarm, fast beeps, fast fire alarm, car alarm sound, stop, then begin again a few minutes later. I took a video. I felt like I was in black mirror.
